Petronas Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn. Bhd., engaged in the development of oil fields in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, has put two offshore oil platforms into operation this year. The West Diyarbekir platform installed on offshore wells is connected to the Magtymguly oil platform that supplies hydrocarbon feedstock via the pipeline to the shore. Commissioning operations on the Central Diyarbakir oil platform has been completed. The company is going to use it to extract additional thousands of barrels in November and increase oil production to 10,000 barrels per day by the end of the year.

The second project objective is to develop the Garagol-Western Deniz field. The company is going to additionally extract 7,000 barrels per day on this offshore area. In order to achieve this objective the unique offshore installation – GDZ-A was assembled in the assembly plant with an annual capacity to process 25,000 tons of metal. The sinking of the oil platform foundation and piles was done in July and mid-August this year respectively. At present, specialists are carrying out assembly works on the upper parts of the platform that will be installed on the oil field early next year. The first barrels of oil will be extracted in September 2016after drilling operations are completed.

Construction works on a 70-kilometre pipeline that will transport raw materials to the gas processing plant and the ground gas terminal will start in November and finish in January next year. The Korean companies Hyundai Engineering and LGI, contracted to modernize the industrial facility, are to assemble and put high-powered separation equipment into operation at the gas treating plant in Kiyanly. This equipment will be used to separate hydrocarbons extracted on oil fields – oil, condensate and associated gas.

Petronas Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn. Bhd. is one of the oil and gas operators, working in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea. It is a subsidiary of Malaysia’s fully integrated oil and gas multinational company Petronas that is one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world.

The first offshore oil platform on the Blok 1 contract area started to work in 2006. It served as the mobile offshore floating production and storage unit. By that time, Petronas Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn. Bhd. had been operating on the contract area. In July 1996, it concluded the Production Sharing Agreement with the Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan and received the Ministry’s license for oil and gas exploration and production on the Blok 1 offshore area.

The Malaysian company began developing the contract area with pilot commercial oil production and development of gas fields in Blok 1. It built the gas processing plant and the ground gas terminal with the support of the State Agency for Hydrocarbon Resources Management and Use under the President of Turkmenistan four years ago.

The largest gas complex, consisting of the gas treating plant with an annual capacity to clean 5 billion cubic metres of natural gas and 2.4 million tons of gas condensate, the assembly plant and the residential camp for workers, works in the neighbourhood of the fishing village Kiyanly in S. Turkmenbashi Etrap.

The company’s long-term plans provide for the development of unexplored fields with sufficient oil reserves in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.
