It will provide irrigation water for the virgin lands in Altyn Asyr and Kaahka etraps.
Officials and specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Turkmenistan, Ahal vilayet municipality, rural workers, representatives of social organizations and mass media, honorable elders took part in the solemn ceremony.
In the course of the ceremony, the specialists distinguished during the construction of new water complex, were awarded with valuable gifts on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan. Artists of the province performed colorful concert program.
As is known, in January of the last year, according to the Resolution of the Head of State, it was approved “Program of activities on rational use of water resources in Turkmenistan and increase the culvert capacity of Karakum River within 2015-2020”. In accordance with this program, in the water economy sector, it is realized large investment projects, including aimed at satisfaction the growing needs in life-giving water for irrigated agriculture.
The water complex built in Ahal province will provide with irrigation water about 25 thousand hectares of land put into an agricultural use in the etraps Altyn Asyr and Kaahka. It includes a variety of hydraulic engineering facilities to ensure intake of the Karakum River and supply the necessary volumes of water to farmlands.
Taking into account the complicated topography – the sowing fields are above the level of Karakum River, here, it is used a cascade method of water delivery. So, water-lifting facilities of the first stage will enable to raise water to the height of 32 meters at a rate of 5.6 cubic meters per second, the second stage – up to 51 meters at a rate of 5.2 cubic meters per second, the third – up to 100 meters at a rate of 6.3 cubic meters per second. In total, here, it was mounted 17 high-power pumping units, including 3 reserves, as well as it was laid over 35 kilometers of pipes with 1400 mm in diameter.
Moreover, on the territory of the abovementioned etraps, it was constructed more than 77 kilometers of irrigation canals, 266.7 kilometers of drainage collectors as well as mud water removal system and other operational facilities.
Thus, with the commissioning of modern water complex, the Ahal farmers have an opportunity to expand considerably the arable lands, to put into crop rotation the new virgin massifs, to turn them into fertile field.
Implementation of this project is another important step for the successful solution of the tasks set by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on rational use of water resources, improve the efficiency of irrigated agriculture as the most important factor of dynamic development of agricultural production, stable yielding of rich harvests of wheat, cotton and other agricultural crops, the optimal realization of the potential of the national agricultural sector.
