In accordance with the direction of the head of state, cotton growers of Akhal, Lebap and Mary regions have kicked off a cotton sowing campaign. A bit later - on March, 30 - farmers from Dashoguz region joined them.
It is known that cultivation of such valuable crop is one of the priority areas in agricultural sector of Turkmenistan. Last year, masters of "white gold" exceeded their contractual obligations. They have yielded and stocked at the state wheelhouses more than 1 million 100 thousand tons of raw cotton.
This year in Turkmenistan 545 thousand hectares of cultivated land have been allocated for cotton. In total, it is planned to yield 1 million and 50 thousand tons of "white gold", including the following: in Akhal region - 207 thousand tons, Dashoguz region - 230 thousand tons, Lebap region - 300 thousand tons, Mary region - 313 thousand tons.
