Two another bronze medal added to collection of Turkmenistan team in the 2021World Sambo Championship in Tashkent. In the final day of competition, the representatives of the combat sambo Abdylla Babayev (weight category up to 71 kg) and Rusdem Penjiyev (up to 79 kg) won the medals.
On the way toward this success, the international master of sport A.Babayev won over Mger Merjanyan (Armenia), Philipp Wilhelm Graf 9Germany) and Alaybek Umotov (Kyrgyzstan). In the bout for reaching the final, the winner of which secured at least a silver medal, Abdylla lost to Zugimantas Romashka from Lithuania and was content with a bronze medal.
For Abdylla Babayev – it is a third bronze medal won in the world championships. Previously, he achieved the same success at the 2015 world championships in Casablanca (Morocco) and 2018 in Bucharest (Romania).
And for champion of Asia in 2018 Rusdem Penjiyev – it is a first great success in the sambo world championship. On the way toward it, he won over Huan Montoya (Colombia), and then Nurlan Turganbayev (Kazakhstan). In semifinal, the participants of which guaranteed a bronze medal, Rusdem lost to Vladislav Rudnev from Ukraine, who became a world champion, and as a result, at the awards ceremony, he climbed to the third step of the podium.
Rusdem Penjiyev is also known for his success in other kind of Martial Arts – jiu-jitsu. Let us recall, in the 2017 V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which was held in Ashgabat, he won gold medal on jiu-jitsu and was awarded a title the Honoured Master of Sport.
Both Babayev and Penjiyev improve their skill under the of the head trainer of national combat sambo team Shohrat Annamuhamedov and head of the Marital Arts Federation of Turkmenistan Alai Niyazmengliyev.
Thus, the Turkmen sambo athletes completed their performance in the Tashkent championship, having won three bronze medals in total. Let us recall, the first bronze medal won Nedir Allaberdyyev for Turkmenistan in the 2021 World Championship on sambo among men. It is noteworthy that before that, at the world championships, the representatives of Turkmenistan last achieved such success in this type of program among men five years ago. Then the bronze medal at the 2016 World Championship in Sofia was awarded in the weight category up to 90 kg Tejen Tejenov.
World Sambo Championship have been held every year since 1973. Next World Championship will be in Ashgabat in2022.
Let us recall, last year the Sambo International Federation (FIAS) received permanent recognition by the International Olympic Committee.
