Turkmenistan has allocated the first tranche for the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline on the territories of Afghan-Pakistani section

On June 3, at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on the allocation of more than $ 45 million to finance the initial phase of construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline in the territories of Afghanistan and Pakistan section.

Currently, the field exploration work has been almost completed in the Turkmen’s territory of laying and welding of pipelines are continuing on a- 24 km prepared tracks. In accordance with the Decree of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a complete work on the territory of Turkmen section is planned to be completed by the end of 2018. The «TAPI Pipeline Company Limited» company is providing construction and operation of gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India and is actively engaged in negotiations with all project companies and financial institutions’ stakeholders with its headquarters in Dubai.

Adopted by the heads of the state a decision to allocate appropriate funds is the first tranche aimed directly at the construction of a pipeline under the Investment Agreement between the State Concern "Turkmengaz" and companies «Gail (India) Limited» (India), «Interstategassystems Limited» (Pakistan) , «Afghan Gas Enterprise» (Afghanistan), «TAPI Pipeline Company Limited» and «Galkynysh Pipeline Company».

The total length of the TAPI gas pipeline will be approximately 1814 kilometers. Our country will be laid 214 kilometers of pipeline in our territory, which is then passed through the cities in Afghanistan - Herat and Kandahar, in the territories of Pakistan - through the city of Quetta and Multan, and reach the village Fazilka in India. The construction of the new gas pipeline will create about 12 thousand new jobs, which is favorable to improve living standards of population.

The annual capacity of the gas pipeline will be 33 billion cubic meters. Commissioning of projects, including supporting ground infrastructure, is scheduled by December 2019. In the Turkmen section of the interstate gas pipeline, specialists of the State Concern "Turkmennebitgazgurlyshyk" are currently stringing by diameters of 1,420 mm and the welding with multiple threads that can increase the pace of work.

Turkmen gas will help meet the growing needs of "blue fuel" in India and Pakistan. These needs may be increased twice by 2030. In addition, constant shortage of energy resources in the transit Afghanistan will be reduced. Moreover, Bangladesh showed the interest in the project. After the implementation of the TAPI project, India will receive the first transnational gas pipeline. Currently, the country buys gas in the liquefied form and transports it by tankers.

The State Concern "Turkmengaz" supervises the works related to financing construction of the highway and its exploitation. With more than 50 years of experience in production operation in the field of natural gas production and supply, laying of pipelines, the State Concern "Turkmengaz" was unanimously elected by the leader of the stock company «TAPI Pipeline Company Limited».

The intention to participate in financing the construction of TAPI gas pipeline was stated by representatives of Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Islamic Development Bank, Saudi Fund for Development and the Government of Japan.
