Akhal regional farmers come to the quality new level in production of agricultural goods

The abundant lands of this region grow not only strategic crops – wheat and cotton, but also high grade sorts of vegetables, fruits, and melons. The uniqueness of the climatic conditions and the developed water system in this region can produce many kinds of valuable agricultural products.

In 2016, 760 thousand hectares of fertile land are allocated for winter crops in the country. Domestic grain growers intend to receive1 million 600 thousand tons of wheat from this area. The biggest part is 450 thousand tons will be delivered to granaries of the homeland from the fields of Akhal region.


There are dozens of companies allocated in this territory for the purpose of storage and industrial production of agricultural goods. To represent the level of established agricultural infrastructure in Akhal region it is enough to name a few of them. It is a specialized plant for cotton seeds processing with a capacity of 40 thousand tons per year in Altyn Asyr district. Therefore, cotton is called "white gold". This is the second most important export crop of Turkmen agriculture, and raw materials for the rapidly developing textile industry of the country. It will be selected the best seeds for future crops on cotton ginning enterprise.

Fruit processing industries produce large volume of goods, having had its own agricultural land to grow fruits and vegetables and produce organic food – tomato puree, jams and juices. Products of these complexes are not only in demand part of abundant food baskets of Turkmen people, but also a partial implementation of the import substitution program.


A good example is the enterprises located in peasant union "Kopetdag" of district Geoktepe and the peasant union "Murche" of Baharly district. Members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan were constructed two plants –canned vegetable and fruit goods production, and soft drinks and pure drinking water production.

New production capacity owned by economic association “Parasatly” is planning to produce daily up to 20 tons of tomato puree, three tons of jam. Five million bottles of clean drinking water and three and a half thousand non-alcoholic drinks per hour will be produced here. Dutch sorts of tomatoes are planted on 140 hectares of land and various fruit trees and grapes are planted on 100 hectares of private lands aimed at the needs of a cannery factory in the peasant association "Murche. Fresh vegetables and greens are daily delivered to the retail outlets in Ashgabat, enriching by quality goods of the Turkmen capital’s food market.


Aimed to fully satisfy the inquiries of residents of the capital and Akhal region, it is built two new greenhouses with the ability to produce each one up to 50 tons of fresh vegetables in Ak Bugday district.

The high quality of fruits and vegetables grown in Akhal region says three gold medals received during all-Russian agricultural exhibition "Golden autumn-2014" held in Moscow. The prestigious awards brought together representatives of the Turkmen agricultural private sectors which are showcased adequately the opportunities of the region. In particular, it was displayed goods of the peasant association "Parasatly" is producing vegetable, garden and melons; individual enterprise "Merdem" is producing the set of elite varieties of apples, pears, apricots, grapes, plums and persimmons and individual enterprise "Parakhat" is producing goods of ecologically pure natural juices "Joş" and "Eçil".

This fall in Economic Association “Parasatly" is expected a large harvest of one of the best grape " Pink Taifi”, the total volume of which is 30 tons. And this is not by accident. The history of grape cultivation totals not one century.


Akhal melon growers take care for valuable varieties of watermelons, pumpkins and cantaloupes, including the popular variety of melon "vaharman" mostly grown in district of Tejen. Its unsurpassed taste qualities are due to the painstaking selection work of local farmers which gave the world "sweet miracle." Yields up to 300 quintals per hectare, and some melons can reach impressive sizes.

Cultivated and forage plants are clover, corn and barley. Large production capacity and significant farmlands of Akhal region are allocated for development of poultry and livestock. Shepherds of Peasant Associations of Akhal Regional Production Department of the State Livestock Associations graze tens of thousands of heads of small cattle and more than a thousand camels.


Livestock sector for many years was part of people’s economic life lived on this land. Archaeologists have found bones of domesticated animals in ancient settlements dating back to the Bronze Age. Now this industry is rapidly developing due to the construction of large industrial facilities.

It is recently launched two enterprises in Altyn Asyr district of Akhal region: a farm for fattening of young cattle with production capacity of 500 tons of meat per year, and a livestock complex which is able to produce 2 thousand tons of milk and its products and 30 tons of meat per year. This production is able to contain several hundred heads of cattle, has its own 400 hectares of crops aimed to plant forage crops and provide food more than a dozen types of first-class dairy products to the local markets. It is established two large cattle-breeding complexes in Baharly district which are able to produce up to100 tons of meat products per year. One of these enterprises will annually produce 20 thousand tons of dairy products. To help livestock farms in Akhal region it is launched a specialized enterprise for production of the three types of mixed feeds, the technology of which includes the enrichment with nutritional supplements. It is planning to produce 30 thousand tons of products per year.


It is put into operations new virgin lands in Akhal region. Along with this, it is expanding and improving a water supply system of the region. It is recently launched into operation a new water complex which will be able to provide water irrigation for about 25 thousand hectares of lands, located in Altyn Asyr and Kaahka districts. In the near future, using the unique natural conditions of Akhal region in Ak Bugday district by the order of the State Committee of Environmental Protection and Land Resources in the area of 10 hectares it will be built a specialized greenhouse for growing seedlings for ornamental trees and flowers.

Akhal region’s farmers have reached a quality new level in production of goods. They do not just increased growth volume of demanded agricultural products, but actively participate in shaping a modern infrastructure of agro-industrial complex of the country. Multi-dimensional large-scale reforms, initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, is covering all spheres of public life, gave a powerful impetus to economic activity and sustainable development of regions.
