Livestock sector of Turkmenistan enters a qualitatively new level of development

As is known, it was revised the total conduct of agriculture was revised in the beginning of the year. In particular, the livestock was divided into industrial, suggesting maintenance of farm animals in a farmyard breeding complexes, as well as pasturage grazing - sheep and camel-breedings.

In this regard, cattle and poultry farms were transferred to the State Association of Food Industry of Turkmenistan. These are eight cattle farms - three in Akhal, one in Mary, two in Lebap and two in Dashoguz regions, also two poultry farms: in Bereket – with production potential of the 8 million eggs in a year, and Bayramali - egg and meat production with the design capacity of 1 thousand tons of broiler chicken and 8 million pcs. eggs annually. Grazing livestock - only 39 farms has been transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Turkmenistan. The management of these farms in the region has been implemented by industrial, agricultural associations under the structure of the ministry.


At the present, it is simultaneously built a few large modern cattle-breeding complexes for breeding cattle, which will resolve the issues with customer supply of meat and dairy products, and establishment of the meat and milk export. Complexes will be equipped with advanced equipment for the maintenance of elite highly breeding farm animals.

Activities to improve the development of animal husbandry, as a significant sector of agriculture and development of its infrastructure are conducted jointly with specialists of the Institute of Livestock and Veterinary of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan. Their mission is to promote the development of livestock breeding on a scientific basis, to use modern technology in zoo-techniques, and quality veterinary products, to get through our epizootic and climatic conditions and to provide advice at sites.


Currently, scientists of the Institute of Livestock and Veterinary of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan started to implement the work plan for the period - 2016-2020 years, which can be divided into three main areas of research. These are the creation of abundance of food, protection of animals against diseases, development of veterinary means and vaccines, as well as investigation of the possibility to develop sheep and camels-breedings in the "Altyn Asyr" lake zone. In particular, it will be made up scientific advice on the cultivation of breeding livestock and poultry to increase their breed potential in Turkmenistan.

Comprehensive reform of Agro-Industrial Complex stimulates adopted the last year’s laws of Turkmenistan "On livestock breeding" and "On pastures" the work of which are attended by national experts, including scientists of the institute. These laws in a new phase of economic development determine the direction of development of cattle and small cattle, as well as regulate the rational management of pasture resources, the legal basis for the development of animal husbandry in perspective.


The relevance of the legislative livestock support is obvious: the manufacturer can grow breeding stock for the production of meat and milk, to pay due attention to the selection and all the conditions of keeping elite cattle, to provide feed ration, and in the case of sheep -breeding to rationally use of available pasturage for grazing, etc. Now the work continues to streamline aspects of providing legal regulation in the field of livestock production.

The state takes care of the domestic animal science formation, animal husbandry industry, stimulates the formation of applied research in the poultry industry, and provides organizational and financial assistance to entrepreneurs - producers of livestock products. It gives a powerful impetus to the development of private stock-raising farmers. Initiative and energetic famers are the members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, which is taking part in construction of the most country’s cattle-breeding complexes.

In the past agricultural season, there was a tendency of the increase of state livestock farm animals and poultry and the volume of production of livestock products. This year, the state breeders are increasing the pace of work: successfully conducted the lambing in sheep-breeding. It is getting prepared seasonal forage at rapid pace.
