More varieties of medium staple cotton were sown in the fields of Dashoguz velayat compared to last year. This year, for the first time, the Ýolöten-39 cotton variety, developed by domestic specialists, successfully used in other parts of the country, was added to the varieties traditional for the northern region of the country. Although it has been placed in small volumes so far, experts hope that the novelty, in accordance with the parameters laid down in it, will be able to take root painlessly in local climatic conditions and give a good harvest.
The difficult weather conditions in the north of Turkmenistan increase the importance of breeding activities for local farmers, taking into account soil and climatic conditions. The main criteria for the basic varieties of cotton tested here, including taking into account the requirements of the textile industry, are good germination in local climatic conditions, increased disease resistance, high yields and yield of fiber, improved indicators of its strength, length and breaking load, compliance with environmental requirements.
Therefore, they are trying to take a comprehensive approach to improving seed production and providing agricultural producers in the region with high-quality cotton seeds. Local breeders are consistently working on new varieties of valuable raw materials suitable for mass use. Thus, specialists of the research and production testing center located in the Gubadag etrap in recent years, by crossing the best domestic and foreign varieties, have bred and are gradually developing a number of promising new products that will be acceptable for the area in terms of germination and development, resistance to temperature conditions and other key indicators.
