Annual branch review, timed to the Day of Energy Industrial Workers, observed on the second Saturday of September, is large-scale demonstration ground for achievement of domestic energy sphere, which traditionally attracts local and foreign profile specialists.

In this year, representatives of domestic branch departments, world electric energy companies and private sectors from 14 countries including Turkey, Russia, USA, Japan and many others will take part in specialized exhibition organized by the Ministry of Energy and Trade and Commerce Chamber of Turkmenistan. There are such world developers and manufacturesrs of electric energy equipment as «General Еlectriс», «Schneider Electriс», «Siemens», «Çalik Enerji», «Metro Elektric», «Kastro Kablo», «Sumitomo Corporation», «Ethos Energy», Baltrusenergo, «Neftegasgeophisika LLC», Minsk Electro-technical Plant, Poltava Turbo-mechanical Plant and others among them.

Attention of foreign partners to the forum indicates high dynamics of development of this sphere, keen interest of business circles to establishment of mutually beneficial cooperation. Such subjects as attraction of foreign investments, construction and modernization of generating and distribution facilities and energy saving in electrical energy branch of Turkmenistan will be discussed there.

As is known, the “Concept of development of Electrical Energy Branch of Turkmenistan in 2013 – 2020” was adopted in the country. It was developed by the initiative of the Head of the State for realization of the tasks determined in “National Programme of Social and Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2011 – 2030”, “Programme of the President of Turkmenistan for Social and Economic Development of the Country for 2012 – 2016” and the Plans for social and economic development of Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary velayats for 2016 – 2020, which gave additional strong impulse to the process of large-scale modernization of one of the leading branches of the country.

Uninterrupted and reliable power supply to accommodation buildings, industrial facilities and constructions and objects of national economy, increase of export of energy to neighbouring countries are among the tasks of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan. State Electrical Energy Corporation “Turkmenenergo” of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan makes considerable contribution to fulfilment of the assigned tasks. The Corporation is represented by complex organization, which performs exploitation and service of energy facilities provides centralized power supply of consumers of national economy and heating supply in number of cities as well as export of Turkmen energy to other countries.

At present time, the structure of the state Electrical Energy Corporation “Turkmenenergo” of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan includes 13 state power stations with total output capacity of 5.5 GW, 6 production associations, Specialized Production Association “Turkmenenergoabatlayish”, “State Energy Control” enterprise, Department of Urban Lighting, “Energoedjam” enterprise and trade and processing enterprise “Maryenergoupjunchilik”.

For the years of independence, the volumes of produced energy were considerably increased. Diversified power line system, which is under supervision of 6 production enterprises of electric networks, connects all stations of the country in single energy network. The Central Dispatch department of the State Electrical Energy Corporation of “Turkmenenergo” coordinates its work in live mode.

Ashgabat State Power Station with two gas turbine installations of total capacity 254.5 megawatts was put into exploitation in 2006. In 2016, its structure was supplemented by 220 kV power distribution unit, what increased reliability of power supply of the Turkmen capital.

Under “national Programme for fundamental transformation of social and living conditions of the population of villages, settlements, cities etraps and etrap centres for the period until 2020” it is planned to electrify most remote parts of the country, to reconstruct distribution networks, transforming sub-stations, to build tens of thousands of power lines. Construction of high-voltage air power lines and sub-stations will be continued and will allow to reduce the loss of energy during its transfer.

Owing to increased potential of the branch, Turkmenistan not only provides its internal requirements but also increase the supply of energy in neighbouring countries. Current projects are aimed at further modernization and construction of new energy facilities, substations and transforming installations, distribution networks, expansion of export directions of power lines.

Advance growth of powers of national energy system is aimed at realization of new energy strategy of president of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which is based on principles of search of most advantageous directions of increase of export of Turkmen energy carriers to international markets. Today, Turkmen energy is exported to Islamic Republic of Iran and Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

In the future, it is planned to connect energy hubs of the country via 500 kW air electrical lines into single system. Besides, works for construction of 500 – 400 kW air power supply line Mary – Serakhs – Meshed (Iran) are carried out and construction of 400 kW air power supply line Balkanabat – Gonbad (Iran) is planned for increase of export of Turkmen energy. The construction of air power supply lines will allow to realize programmes of export of electric energy to Iran and Turkey by transit via Iranian energy system. The subject of construction of 500 kW air power supply line along TAPI gas main for transfer of Turkmen energy to Islamic Republic of Pakistan is under review.

Realization of plans will create favourable conditions for provision of energy security, strengthening of positions of Turkmenistan in world energy market and will give powerful incentive of economic growth of the country.
