Oil and gas sector: results of development in the first half of the year and new tasks

The results of the development of the flagship oil and gas industry of the national economy in the first half of the year were summed up at the expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan held on July 8. According to the announced data, tasks for the production, processing and export of hydrocarbons were successfully completed, in terms of proven reserves of which the country ranks fourth in the world. In the first six months of the year, the plan for the production of oil and gas condensate gas amounted to 112.3 percent, the export of "blue fuel" - 122.4 percent.

The implementation of the strategy for deep processing of oil and gas for the production of high value-added goods and strengthening the country's position in this promising market continues. According to the report over the past six months, the plan for oil refining was fulfilled by 112.1 percent, gasoline production - by 132.9 percent, diesel fuel - by 115.9 percent, polypropylene - by 153.7 percent, lubricating oils - by 105.4 percent, liquefied gas - by 118.6 percent.

In accordance with the plans outlined, the policy of diversifying the supply of Turkmen energy resources to world markets is being implemented. The strategic project of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline and other regional projects are under implementation.

The results achieved serve as the basis for further development of the industry in accordance with the set of tasks set by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Their solution is aimed at strengthening the raw material base of the industry, modernizing the activities of oil and gas enterprises, including through the widespread introduction of modern digital technologies into production, and creating new jobs. The head of state instructed to take the necessary measures aimed at further diversifying the fuel and energy complex and improving its financial condition, strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation with reliable foreign partners with relevant competencies and experience.

Among the urgent tasks are: increasing the efficiency of geological exploration, seismic exploration and drilling, the implementation of activities to discover and develop new oil and gas fields, including through the use of 3D modeling technology. At the same time, the President of Turkmenistan ordered to prepare specific proposals regarding the increase in the productivity of production oil and gas wells, pointed out the need to ensure the operation of oil refineries at maximum capacity. Further development of the oil and gas sector in the context of the emerging digital economy also requires professional development of employees of the fuel and energy complex, which is facilitated by the development of international cooperation and the exchange of best practices with specialized global companies.
