Specialists of the “CA Interbudmontazh” Economic Association completed construction of drainage and communication tunnel laid under Ashgabat

According to the Ashgabat Khyakimlik Directorate of high-security objects under construction, construction of 18-km tunnel six metres in diameter and more than 13,000 metres of drainage tunnels three metres in diameter completed. The tunnel excavation was carried out by mechanized mining complex of the Herrenknecht German company with a unique cutter with a diameter of more than six metres. The complex is able to pass through a set route at any depth under the city, leaving behind a solid tunnel consisting of a powerful reinforced concrete segments. The inner diameter of the underground reservoir - 5.4 metres is comparable to the size of the underground tunnels. Besides the tunnel itself is divided into two compartments, in one of which the city electric and network cables will be laid.

Specialists combined three tunnels – south-eastern, northern and western ones into a single ring. In spite of the geological and hydro-geological difficulties, the tunnel excavation was carried out day-and-night. Due to the professionalism of surveyors, service technicians and machine operators, the tunneling system connected the tunnel with maximum precision. Underground gallery with concrete riverbed for sewage and drainage waters was laid to the KOS-300 treatment facilities out of town and was put into operation. This important facility significantly reduced the groundwater level near Ashgabat. In future, treated water will be used in the irrigation system of the country.

Specialists of the “CA Interbudmontazh” Economic Association started implementation of this unique project in 2002. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that these communication facilities have almost never being constructed yet. It was necessary not only to dig the underground gallery and create a ring system to combine sewers and around 70 radial drainage pipes, of which the urban waste water and groundwater will be discharged by gravity into the main tunnel.
