The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan has published data on how the constitutional equality of men and women in the country is reflected in the upcoming general democratic elections on the 26th of March in 2023. It is noted, in particular, that among those participating in the elections:
- members of the Central Electoral Commission - 33.34 percent are women;
- members of the velayat election commissions and the election commission of the city of Ashgabat - 19.70 percent;
- members of election commissions of etraps and cities with the rights of etraps - 32.33 percent;
- members of district election commissions - 41.75 percent;
- members of election commissions of cities in etraps, settlements, gengeshes - 40.01 percent;
- members of precinct election commissions - 43.45 percent.
Among those registered in the elections:
- candidates for deputies of the Mejlis are women - 15.89 percent;
- candidate members of the velayat halk maslahaty 32.04 percent;
- candidate members of etrap, city halk maslahaty 33.98 percent;
- candidate members of the Gengeshlik - 30.72 percent.
In addition, 50.47 per cent of national election observers at the local level are women.
The democratic nature of the elections is also ensured by the provision of early voting rights for citizens traveling on long business trips or vacations, as well as for those who, for one reason or another, will not be able to come to their polling station and vote on election day. Turkmen citizens can also exercise their constitutional right to participate in elections at 42 polling stations established abroad at the country's diplomatic missions. Thus, citizens of Turkmenistan who have reached the age of 18 can take part in the elections at polling station №2, which will work in the building of the Turkmen consulate in Astrakhan until the 26th of March from 07:00 to 19:00.
