In the nearest future, the gas will be supplied to the consumers in the Ahal and Balkan Velayats. The 150-km section of the regional gas pipeline was put into operation once the general contractor of the construction project – the Maryneftegazstroy Trust affiliated to the Turkmenneftegazstroy State Concern and its subdivisions completed flow testing at the first and second sections.

The western section of the pipeline stretching from Gumdag to Belek also has also proved its reliability. The other six sections of the largest interregional gas pipeline (773 km and 1,420 mm in diameter) are prepared for endurance and leakages tests.

Still, there is much to do. It is necessary to test and put into operation a linear part of the pipeline as well as to create a developed infrastructure that can manage the ‘blue fuel’ flow from the largest deposits in the country. To do this it will be necessary to build a number of gas compressor stations and other facilities along the pipeline route. The preparation for construction of the first plant started at the Shatlyk site. It will require a lot of efforts to complete the arrangement of electrical part, connects jumpers with the existing pipelines, including Dawletabad-

Daryalik, Shatlyk-Abadan, Bami-Serdar, Central Asia-Centre, to protect the pipeline from external influence, lay roads, to plant greenery to fix sands along the pipeline.

The East-West main gas pipeline, laid on the territory of the country, is designed to combine all major gas fields as well as to create conditions for the export of Turkmen fuel to world markets.

The East-West pipeline will be the most important part of the modern gas transit system, which Turkmenistan improves and modernizes in accordance with the growing demands of the national economy and requirements of the international energy market.

The pipeline will satisfy the needs of the regions in 'blue fuel’, supply natural raw materials to industrial facilities and, in particular, the unique gas-chemical complexes as well as create conditions for the development of leading sectors, in particular the electrical energy industry, and define the further socio-economic development of regions.
