Owing to new power stations and lines built in different regions of the country, the increased potential of the branch allows to satisfy the needs of domestic consumers and to export the energy.

For example, total volume of production, works and services, rendered by the Ministry of energy in 2016 made more than 1 billion 99 million 900 thousand manats. As a result the plan was executed for 122.9 percent and the growth rate made 111.6 percent. The growth rate of production of energy made 105.8 percent and the export 116.2 percent.

Large-scale projects aimed at further modernization and construction of the power stations are implemented in Turkmenistan; new lines and numbers of distribution substations are built. The system of electrical supply and the lighting of the capital, cities and rural areas are modernized. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted several times in his speeches that introduction of advanced technologies, use of efficient and reliable equipment and materials are the main objective of domestic energy branch during realization of the projects.

There are numbers of new large power stations with the last generation equipment in Ashgabat, Ahal, Balkanabat, Lebap, Dashoguz and Avaza National tourist zone along with the main facility of the branch – Mary hydropower station, in the structure of energy system of Turkmenistan, which is completely satisfies its own requirements and export the energy to other countries.

Put of modern power stations working with high efficiency into operation allowed implementation of optimal modes of operation of certain facilities and the whole energy system of the country. Besides, advanced growth rates of energy sphere allowed timely stop of the operation of old low productive power installations.

The power stations of our country use low cost natural gas. It is delivered from the nearest fields. Fuel and diesel oils from domestic refineries are used in case of necessity as a backup source.
