Turkmenistan is one of the richest country by natural gas reserve. The scientists are quite confident that gas and condensate reserves can be considerably multiplied by further integrated geological and geophysical studies and exploration drilling to be hold on plane platform territories of the country and beyond Western – Turkmen intermountain basin. Scientists group of Natural Gas Research Institute of the State Concern “Turkmengas” works on increase of raw material reserves of the branch for many years. Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Deputy Director of the Institute Taganguly Ilamanov tells how the personnel of the Head Research Institute carry out efficient search and exploration of hydrocarbon deposits:
- The scientists and specialists of the Natural Gas Institute of the State Concern “Turkmengas” hold successful fundamental researches. The subject of works of the personnel of the Institute is closely connected with improvement of the methodology of geological survey, development and implementation of scientific and practical recommendations for provision of the survey data on hydrocarbon reserves to gas production branch of Turkmenistan.
- There are five profile laboratories in geographical section of the Research Institute. What is the spectrum of their researches?
- The strategy of further development of oil and gas complex of the country requires intensification of works for discovery of new perspective areas and deposits, acceleration of exploration and development. That is why, laboratory personnel of geological department pay greatest attention to applied scientific studies.
- There are numerous core samples from new wells of Central and Eastern Turkmenistan, which were drilled at Durdjy, Mydar, Eastern Mydar, Yilakly. Geyazly, Singern, Gytlyyak, Western Garajovlak, Garamashal, Hojabulan, Rahoj, Western Bovrideshik, Devezekem, Youloten, Agarguyi and Balhan deposits and search and explorations areas. Analysis of these samples and other data of geological survey allowed to study gas-bearing depositions on these areas and introduce their peculiarities to relative search and exploration department of the State Concern “Turkmengas” what considerably expedited the development of the territories.
Our staff does annual operational assessment and reappraisal of the reserves and resources of oil and gas on productive horizons of the deposits. Such works were carried our recently in group of Garajaovlak Gas Condensate Field, Mydar Oil and Gas and Tamdayrly Gas Condensate deposits, what allowed to estimate precisely the resources of these deposits.
- What are the outcomes of work carried out by the specialists of the institute at Galkynysh field and prospects of development of these areas?
- Drilling crews of the State Corporation “Turkmengeologiya” and the State Concern “Turkmengas” carry out production drilling of the first phase and prepare for the second and third phases of field development. This deposit is unique by its soil and geological conditions and requires increased attention by scientific and technical services during wells construction. Modern drilling installations are used for this and most suitable constructions of wells are selected. Our specialists make operational analysis of deep drilling data.
In addition to production drilling, the State Corporation “Turkmengeologiya” carries out exploration on Galkynysh Field as well. Recommendations on running of technical and production strings and perforation intervals were also presented for these wells.
Study of the core samples, which will be undertaken by our specialists at production wells during I, II and following stages of Galkynysh Field development, will also allow expanded data on carbonate rocks and collector characteristics in general and on separate parts of the deposit and its horizons. These data will correct current estimates of gas reserves and geological model of Galkynysh deposit.
At present day, the deposit with huge gas reserves is at the first phase of development and the current estimation of initial geological reserves is limited by the area covered by geological model. However, there is big opportunity that Galkynysh Field are beyond these limits. After additional seismic and well surveys, the estimation of gas reserves can be revised upwards and received results will be used for rational exploitation of huge gas-bearing territory.
- What studies are undertaken for discovery of new deposits of natural gas?
- Studies of geophysical department personnel have great importance in searches of new gas hydrocarbons deposits. It is known that the efficiency of search and exploration works and optimum project solutions for development of the fields are determined by the accuracy of geological and geophysical models of the fields.
It is worth saying that geophysical department is one of the best equipped section of the Institute. Combined interpretation of the data of 3D seismic and geophysical surveys using modern software like «Geoframe» and «Petrel» (France), «Discovery-1», «Seis - Geo» and «Geosearch» (Russia) is carried out there. Use of advanced technologies allowed receiving precise results, which are necessary for successful baring of productive horizons.
Thus, modern studies gave opportunity to evaluate geological reserves of Galkynysh and Yashlar gas deposits. Personnel of geophysical department prepared and submitted number of practical recommendations on Gogerendag – Ekerem zone to the state Corporation “Turkmengeologiya”. At present, drilling works based on these data are carried out at Keymir, Akpatlavuk, Nazar – Ekerem, Gerchek and Eastern Gamyshlyja fields.
