Construction of combined steam and gas turbine power station is continued at Mary Hydropower Plant. The largest facility occupies more than half a million square meters and is built by foreign companies – American «General Electric» and Turkish «Çalyk Enerji» by the order of the State Power Energy Corporation “Turkmenenergo” of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan.
Six power-generating units, four gas and two steam turbines of «General Electric» are the basis of new project. If now coefficient of performance of the power plant is average 34.2 percent, then during combined cycle, the COP reaches 57 percent. The volume of natural gas necessary for production of one kilowatt of energy will reduce from 380 to 216 grams. Steam and gas turbine power stations are attractive from ecological point of view as emission of carbon dioxide reduces considerably per each unit of produced energy.
The construction site is filled with most modern construction, specialized and transport equipment; there are totally 120 units. These are excavators, front loaders, tower and portable cranes, concrete mixers, large pipelayers, dump trucks and other equipment and well as smaller machines. The water for technical and other needs is supplied by eight waterlines.
Mary Hydropower Plant is the oldest facility of domestic energy sphere, which was put into operation in the second half of the last century. For all those years, there was many things done for support of its efficient work. Three years ago, 146.7-megawatt gas turbine power station was built and put into operation on its territory. It allowed increasing of total power output of the power plant until 1500 megawatt. After commissioning of new combined steam and gas turbine power station, the output of Mary State Power Station will be doubled.
The construction rates indicate that the energy giant will be put into operation few months ahead of the schedule.
