In the construction of the North-South corridor

Works at one of the main constructions of the country – building of the transnational main line that opens “a window” to Europe and Asia are in full swing.

The transit corridor will run through the territory of the two countries, bordering with Turkmenistan, - Kazakhstan and the Islamic Republic of Iran. In the southern direction of the Bereket-Etrek-Serhetyaka railroad, there will be erected the railway stations Daneata, Tersakan, Zirik, Babaguly, Madav, Akjadere, being located on the route of the caravan paths of the Great Silk Road. Approaching to the Madav and Etrek stations, a wide panorama – exotica of the torrid zone with the monuments of Mashat-Misserian and other historical sights of the Turkmen land opens.

At the beginning of the current year, during the working trip to the Balkan province, the head of the Turkmen state visited a new rail junction – Bereket-1 station and familiarized with the state of station buildings, particularly of the railway station, adjoining to this territory. The largest in the Asian region locomotive depot and marshalling yard with up-to-date engineering-communications chain will be constructed here at the Kopetdag foothill, where all paths intersect.

Today, the Bereket-1 multiple junction is a huge construction site with the large industrial and other station facilities. Works on gravel- crushed stone surfacing of the whole motorway till the station have been fully completed. Laying of rails has reached the Daneata station. Further it runs along the submountain plain of Kurendag, where the whole existing road-building technique as graders, caterpillars, excavators, autocranes, powerful road rollers with heavy shafts, crushers and other specialized highway engineering has been concentrated.

The whole activity of railway engineers is fully mechanized: crushers, grinding rocks steadily stike; road rollers with their round, heavy shafts realize the tightened ramming and smooth out the surface.

Chief engineer of the Bereket enterprise of road and station facilities Berdimamed Amanov comments: “It is “the stone bed”. It should be very smooth and dense, correspond with the requirements of the international standards. The rails are laid over it: firstly, 25-meter so-called “mooring” ones are laid; then they are changed with longer 700-meter rails by which the trains run as on unbroken road bed. Ferroconcrete sleepers are mainly delivered from Uzbekistan and rails – from Ukraine.

The landscape of the locality shows that there can be torrents and therefore, it is planned to construct 35 large bridges.

The living facilities, first of all, cottage-type dwelling houses for eight families with all conveniences, garage and homestead land will be also erected at all stations of the southern direction.

The Etrek station will become one of the largest rail junctions of transport communication of the North-South railway under construction, where a modern locomotive depot with high-technology equipment, a two-storey railway station, terminal and other industrial and social buildings will be erected.

The northern direction of the Bereket-Gyzylgaya-Uzen (Kazakhstan) path with total length of over 400 kilometers has been fully laid with rails. In contrast to the south, this length of the road is considered the most complicated according to its practicability and originality of the local landscape. For example, the railway engineers had to overpass the dried riverbed of ancient Uzboy at the Burgun station. Another natural barrier – the well-known Ustyurt plateau, being situated comparatively high above-sea level, waited them beyond the Tuver station. It demanded mush energy and efforts, skills and abilities from the road builders. Though, the Turkmen railway engineers successfully coped with the tasks.

In future, not only transit cargo, but our freight railway trains with brown coal of Tuvergyr, Gyzylgaya and chemical products of Garabogaz will be transported per this road.

Construction of the railroad is not only of international, economic significance but also of social and living being connected with improvement of living conditions of the local population, providing them with working places. For example, the Tuver village of the Turkmenbashi etrap of the Balkan province is considered as one of the deeply peripheral districts. Owing to construction of the railroad, the village will gain the status of station and its population will get railway profession. Already today, the profession of a locomotive driver, electrician, mechanic for repair and service of locomotives, carriages and depot equipment are in great demand among rural boys, who finish the local secondary school. At present, construction of the large locomotive depot is carried out at a rapid pace at the new station.
