Creative evening in Washington dedicated to the poetry of Magtymguly Fragi

On the 21st of May, a creative evening dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi was held in the city of Washington (USA) at the Library of Congress of the United States of America.

The event was attended by a creative team of scientific, educational and cultural institutions of the country, as well as scientists from the Smithsonian Institution, other scientific institutions and the readership.

As part of the creative evening, an exhibition was organized, which presented works of decorative, applied and fine art of our people, national costumes, jewellery, manuscripts of works by Magtymguly Fragi, prominent representatives of Turkmen literature, including books by Magtymguly Fragi, stored in the Library of Congress of the United States.

At the creative evening there were performances dedicated to the poetry of Magtymguly Fragi. Magtymguly’s poems have a magical power that attracts the attention of any reader and calls all humanity to noble qualities and humanism.

Paul Taylor, a professor at the Smithsonian Institution in the USA, spoke about the reflection of the image of Magtymguly in modern works of art. As already mentioned, the wide dissemination of the image of the Turkmen poet in various fields of art indicates that the Turkmen people have special respect for his work.

In the speeches of scientists from the National Institute of Language, Literature and Manuscripts named after Magtymguly of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, special attention was paid to the poet’s work that has survived to this day, the translation and study of his poems by foreign scientists. As noted, the poet’s work has survived to this day in two ways: oral transmission and manuscripts.

During the event, Turkmen scientists donated the book by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov «Anev - Culture from the Depths of Millennia» to the Library of Congress. Representatives of the library received the book with great respect and noted that it would further complement the collection of publications on Turkmen culture in the library’s collection.

During the creative evening, the performance of songs based on the poetry of Magtymguly Fragi and national music left an unforgettable impression on the participants. The large number of people who took part in the creative evening once again clearly demonstrated that Turkmen culture and art, including the work of Magtymguly Fragi, are of great interest to foreign fans.

As part of the creative evening, a team of scientific, educational and cultural institutions of the country organized a trip to the Library of the US Congress, which is one of the largest libraries in the world. Members of the country's delegation got acquainted with the departments of the famous library and the books stored in them, including publications of Turkmen literature.

On the same day, in the building of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the United States, a presentation of the books of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov «Ýaşlar – Watanyň daýanjy» and «Anev - culture from the depths of millennia» took place, as well as a presentation of a new book of poems by the great Turkmen poet «Magtymguly». The speakers of the event, which was attended by representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in the United States and creative representatives of the country on business trips to this country, emphasized the importance of the books of Arkadagly Hero Serdar and Magtymguly Fragi in enriching the literary heritage of the Turkmen people.
