Sand drift protection issues are being resolved in Dashoguz

As part of the landscaping work this spring, sand protection works were carried out along certain sections of the highway leading from Dashoguz to the international airport. In places where the sands closely approach the highway and there is a risk of their drifting onto the roadway, sand prevention was carried out using living protection from plants, in particular saxaul, as well as reed cell barriers.

Such combined methods are considered economical and allow protecting roads from sand without excessive interference in the environment, strengthening the soil, and also contribute to improving the level of road safety. For instance, it is believed that cells made of reed boards can significantly reduce the volume of sand blowing and hold up to one cubic meter of sand material each.

In Dashoguz, thanks to the implementation of various state projects, issues of protection against sand drifts on national economic facilities, oases and agricultural lands are successfully solved. In recent years, a number of large-scale measures have been successfully implemented to improve the reclamation state of lands, adapt to the consequences of climate change, rehabilitate degraded soils, landscaping, prevent the transfer of dust and salts, and enrich the local flora and fauna.
