"Öňe, öňe, diňe öňe, jan Watanym Türkmenistan!"—these lines from a song, written and composed by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, resounded loudly under the dome of the legendary "Fontvieille" circus tent in Monte Carlo, Principality of Monaco. It was here, as part of the 47th International Circus Festival, that the "Galkynyş" National Equestrian Games Group performed.

The words of this famous song, which has become a kind of anthem for Turkmen riders, were sung even by those who do not know the Turkmen language. Under this melody, the State Flag of Turkmenistan waved proudly, raised by a young rider during one of the most spectacular tricks—a pyramid of riders galloping at full speed. Watching this stunt, one cannot help but be convinced that Akhal-Teke horses are truly winged.

Dedication to their craft, selfless work, and love for their homeland brought Turkmen riders a triumphant victory at this prestigious circus festival. The group’s dream to perform on this legendary stage was achieved through persistent training and tireless effort. To congratulate them on their victory, correspondents from "GA" visited the Turkmen State Circus.

Equestrian art is not just about riding skills, it also requires constant training based on trust and interaction with loyal companions—the horses. In the arena, we found the group hard at work, where new tricks are honed daily and riders’ skills are continuously improved.

The Turkmen school of equestrian art is based on deep traditions and generational continuity. The names of renowned Turkmen riders such as Batyr Annayev, Dovlet Hojabayev, Byashim Annayev and Amandurdy Annayev—who proudly represented the Turkmen school of horsemanship on international stages—are forever inscribed in the history of circus art.

Today, the best traditions of Turkmen equestrian art are continued and developed by the dynasty of national horse breeder and Honored Worker of Culture of Turkmenistan Pygy Bayramdurdyyev. The secrets of mastery are passed down from father to son—to Serdar Pygyyev, head of the "Galkynyş" group, and his large team of young riders striving to master unique equestrian techniques.

After their successful performance at the International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo, Serdar Pygyyev was awarded the honorary title "Türkmenistanyň at gazanan atşynasy" for his significant contribution to developing horse breeding and preserving the pedigree qualities of Akhal-Teke horses—the national treasure and pride of Turkmenistan. This recognition became a great honor and responsibility for him, as well as an additional incentive for further work.

"I am grateful for this high recognition of my work," says Serdar Pygyyev. "My family and my father are my foundation and support in life. Love for horses and respect for horse breeding traditions have been passed down in our family from generation to generation. I am endlessly thankful for the support and attention from our country’s government and for the opportunities provided to us. I have special respect for my predecessors who contributed to the development of equestrian art and horse breeding in Turkmenistan. They are an example I look up to."

The true stars of the "Galkynyş" group are its young female riders, including Medina Bayramdurdyyeva—the daughter of a renowned horse breeder. She began practicing equestrian art and circus performance from an early age and captivated audiences with her skills at the International Festival in Monte Carlo.

The reaction of foreign audiences to the group’s performances left a lasting impression on them. The emotions of spectators were particularly memorable.

"Seeing people of different nationalities admire the art of our national equestrian skills and Turkmen culture is priceless," notes Serdar Pygyyev.

The trip to Monte Carlo was a wonderful opportunity to present to the world the rich traditions of equestrian art and the unique cultural heritage of the Turkmen people. In 2025, declared as the International Year of Peace and Trust, the "Galkynyş" group enthusiastically represented this initiative, vividly reflecting the greatness of their nation with their motto: "Forward! Only forward, my beloved Homeland—Turkmenistan!"
