Potential and growth prospects of Turkmenistan's industrial sector

The stable development of its key industries serves as evidence of the strength and self-sufficiency of the national economy, which continues to maintain high growth rates and steadily increase its potential. One such industry is the industrial sector, which President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov assigns a defining role in the implementation of large-scale socio-economic development programs. As reported during an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the industrial sector demonstrated steady development last year.

GDP growth reached 6.3%, including a 1.5% increase in the industrial sector. For instance, natural gas production amounted to 77 billion 623.1 million cubic meters, while oil production reached 8 million 279.7 thousand tons. Compared to 2023, the production of petroleum bitumen increased by 10.2%, gasoline by 4.8%, fuel oil by 8.2%, diesel fuel by 0.6%, plastic and fiberglass pipes by 2.2%, cement by 3.5%, fish catch by 20.1%, confectionery products by 2.1%, dairy products by 4.7%, butter by 3%, mineral water and non-alcoholic beverages by 11.5%, and canned fruits and vegetables by 7.2%.

During the reporting period, the production volume of cotton yarn grew by 46.7%, and cotton fabric increased by 27.1%. From January to December last year, the Ministry of Construction and Architecture fulfilled its plan at a rate of 108.6%. The Ministry of Industry and Construction Production produced goods and performed works worth a total of 1 billion 708 million manats. The Ministry of Energy achieved its production and work plan at a rate of 104.6%, while the State Concern "Türkmenhimiýa" fulfilled its plan at a rate of 114.6%.

Over the past year, the State Agency for Road Construction Management completed its work plan at a rate of 106.4%, while the khakimlik of Ashgabat city achieved a rate of 115.8%. In addition, the Ministry of Textile Industry ensured a growth rate of 117.3% over the past year.

During the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need to take necessary measures to ensure the uninterrupted operation of enterprises within the country’s construction-industrial complex. He also highlighted the importance of establishing new modern enterprises for industrial and construction production based on scientific achievements and advanced technologies. Significant capital investments in the industrial sector, a favorable investment climate created in the country, and effective state support measures for domestic entrepreneurship have all contributed to this sector's high performance levels.
