On the eve of the Turkmen Carpet Festival, artisan carpet makers are being honored throughout the country, who continue the glorious traditions of hand-made carpet weaving passed down from generation to generation.

Recently, the results of the “Syrlar siňen nepislik” competition, which was held among the masters of carpet factories and enterprises of the country’s velayats, Ashgabat and the city of Arkadag, were summed up and the winners were awarded at the National Museum of Turkmen Carpet.

According to the jury, the main prize was awarded to Nurjemal Amangeldiyeva and Bakhargul Glydzhova, carpet weavers of the carpet workshop of the Baherden Art Carpet Weaving Enterprise of the State Association "Türkmenhaly" (Ahal velayat). Their works became the embodiment of true talent and commitment to centuries-old traditions.

The carpet masterpieces of all the contest participants were presented at an extensive exhibition that unfolded in the halls of the museum. Each craftswoman had the opportunity to talk about the intricacies of manual labor in creating a carpet, share some secrets of wool spinning techniques and dyeing threads with natural dyes, and also talk about what inspires her to create these unique works.

The review was organized by the State Association "Türkmenhaly", the National Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan and the Women's Union. The winners and finalists of the competition were awarded valuable gifts on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan.

On May 25, the XXV meeting of the World Association of Connoisseurs of Turkmen Carpet will be held at the National Museum of Turkmen Carpet. The participation of foreign scientists, specialists and collectors interested in the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people is expected. Carpets and carpet products will be presented at the exhibition, which will allow for the exchange of experience and knowledge in the field of carpet weaving.
