Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gas of the State Concern Turkmengaz performs study and geotechnical objectives on scientific support of geological explorations and drilling, deals with the subjects of integrated preparation and transportation of gas, with protection of gas production equipment from corrosion, with diagnostics of its technical conditions and other relative tasks.
For many years of work, the Institute of Natural Gas gained priceless experience in development of hydrocarbon deposits. Based on the Programme of Development of oil and gas industry until 2030 approved by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the specialist of the scientific centre developed scientifically grounded concept of the development of gas industry of Turkmenistan. Director of the Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gas, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Studies Muhammethur Halylov spoke of its main objectives:
As is known, Turkmenistan is among the countries having largest reserves of hydrocarbon materials, mainly natural gas. The concept of the development of gas industry of the country is aimed at energy security and economic efficiency. Its main objective is to provide the transfer of discovered fields to the State balance based on geological patterns of the hydrocarbon deposits and conducting of oil and gas explorations.
The concept justifies the production of hydrocarbon materials in required volumes and quality including associated mineral resources, processing and realization of natural gas both in local and foreign markets. It also considered existing and future contracts with mentioned export volumes of gas as well as full satisfaction of domestic demand, increase of production of processed gas.
Diversification of the structure of the economy by the growth of gas production and its processing by implementation of technological innovations are among the most important aspects.
To fill the resource base of production and processing industries of the county until 2030, the Institute is planning scientific support of seismic exploration (2D and 3D) methods and geological exploration drilling to discover new oil and gas deposits, particularly gas deposits in eastern, gas and oil deposits in central and oil deposits in western regions of Turkmenistan.
Planned volumes of gas production this time are supported mainly by Galkynysh, Dovetabad, Malay, 10 years of Independence, Yolguyi, Bagaja,Gazlydepe, Korpeje, Nebitlije, Akpatlavyk and Chishler fields and Bagtiyarlyk contractual territory as well as by the deposits of Turkmen sector of Caspian Sea.
Opening of new and rearmament of existing deposits as well as development of oil and gas perspective regions including Turkmen sector of Caspian Sea are planned in the future for the provision of the consumers with natural gas in local and external markets. At the same time, the emphasis is to be made on the exploration of sulphur free gas and deposits of liquid hydrocarbons (oil and condensate). Gas deposits with low energy potential will be used for internal market in the future.
Establishment of relative production infrastructure for preparation, processing and transportation of gas will be required after the development of new deposits. Technologies used at new gas industry facilities, which have to meet highest ecological requirements are essential condition. The concept defines the mode of implementation of energy saving technologies, reflects the objectives of improvement of organizational structures and training of the specialists.
Multidirectional system of existing and planned gas lines established in Turkmenistan such as Turkmenistan – China, Turkmenistan – Iran, TAPI, regional gas pipeline East – West is considered as strategic important pipeline infrastructure for export of Turkmen natural gas. In the future, it is planned work on new routes of transportation of gas.
The production of liquefied and pressurized gas is planned together with the sale of natural gas. Two methods of transportation, partially by pipelines while other part of liquefied or pressurized gas by tankers, will be used based on technical and economic justification.
The concept reviews topical aspects of the realization of gas in local market, which means switching of automobile transport, tractors and other equipment of the State Concern Turkmengaz on gas driven engines. In the future, this method will be used at the facilities of oil and other sectors of the economy of the country.
Fundamental changes in the structure of petrochemical market are expected in relation with the faxct that new technologies of gas processing will replacetraditional products of petrochemistry (olephines, arens, etc).
Since our country has the richest deposits of gas, the implementation of new technologies as well as modern equipment to gas processing will allow producing polyvinylchloride, caustic soda, polyethylene terephthalate and other materials. Diversification of petrochemical industry will give the impulse to the growth of production of such energy efficient types as synthetic liquid fuel, polymeric products, synthetic rubber and fibre, building materials and other.
Priority directions of scientific and technical works are the formation of information and developments database, wide implementation of international practice and innovations, improvement of professional level of the specialists, integration of science, education and production.
Therefore, the solution of the objectives of the development of gas industry of Turkmenistan set by this concept will support the consolidation of economic power and innovative development of the country.
