Sericulture is one of the most important sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan. The culture of sericulture of the Turkmen originates in ancient times. Silk is considered a valuable raw material and occupies a special place in the light industry of our country.
Currently, one of the largest and oldest enterprises of this profile is the Turkmenabat Silk Production Association, which is under the jurisdiction of the "Türkmenpagta" State Concern. It was built in 1931. The modernization of this enterprise, which has been operating for about 90 years and has extensive experience, the introduction of modern technologies for processing cocoons in the years of independence, as well as the search for new methods and types of production ensure the expansion of the scale of the association and increased production efficiency.
The high results achieved by the company in the first six months of 2025, the International Year of Peace and Trust, also indicate well-organized work.
During the corresponding period, the Production Association produced about 33.5 tons of raw silk, which means that the production plan was fulfilled by 119.3 percent.
Since the beginning of the year, the enterprise has also produced 4 million 940 thousand square meters of cotton fabric, the plan has been exceeded by more than 106%. In addition, during the specified period, the enterprise produced 60 thousand square meters of silk fabric. The fulfillment of the enterprise's plan for six months of the current year in monetary terms by almost 115% indicates good organization of work and the creation of favorable working conditions.
The enterprise operates in two shifts. Special vehicles are provided for the delivery of workers and specialists. The most distinguished employees are provided with rest in the "Hasyl" health and recreation center, located in the National Tourist Zone "Avaza", which stimulates workers and specialists to work hard.
The Production Association has workshops for unwinding cocoons, spinning and weaving, dyeing, as well as departments for consumer goods. Here, the cocoon obtained by the silk farmers-tenants of our country is processed, and raw silk and silk products are produced. This large enterprise processes not only the products of the silk farmers of the Lebap velayat, but also the harvest of cocoons prepared by silkworm breeders of the Mary and Dashoguz velayats.
It should be noted that the production association, where about 900 specialists and workers work, also has established the production of the finest silk carpets, distinguished by their high quality. They are woven according to individual orders. The carpet department produces torba bags, car mats, and souvenir carpets, which are in great demand among the population. The products manufactured here, as well as goods manufactured by the country's textile complexes, are offered to the population in the enterprise's retail store at affordable prices.
The achievements of the workers of the Turkmenabat Silk Production Association are a worthy labor gift for the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
