The theatrical season is still closed, but as soon as the creative teams returned from their summer vacations, a working atmosphere settled in the theaters.

Thus, rehearsals are underway for the play “Gurbannazar Ezizov” on the stage of the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theater, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Turkmen poet. Director Mekan Jumabaev reviews every scene of the play and adds the finishing touches.

It should be noted that the play “Gurbannazar Ezizov” has many advantages: musical accompaniment by the theater orchestra, choir, ballet, and recitation of poems. But most importantly—there is consultation with members of Gurbannazar Ezizov’s family. Thanks to the playwrights Hydyr and Ilyas Amangeldiyev, who personally knew the poet, the play has a biographical style.

At the same time, a new play is being staged. Considering that 2025 has been declared the International Year of Peace and Trust, the creative team of the theater is preparing a classic—the play based on N.V. Gogol’s “The Marriage.” The choice of this play is explained by the fact that the play “The Marriage of Balzaminov,” staged at the theater based on a play by A.N. Ostrovsky several years ago, enjoys consistent success with the audience.

An interesting fact—the co-directors of the play “The Marriage,” People’s Artist of Turkmenistan Ovez Gelenov and Honored Art Worker of Turkmenistan Batyr Bekmyradov, have main professions as an actor and a theatrical artist. However, they also have directing works in their portfolio. Currently, work on the play is in the stage of actor reading.
