Many readers interested in history are familiar with the first volumes of the novel «Beýik Seljukly» by the Turkmen historian, scientist and national writer Yazmyrat Mammedi.
The books tell about the ancient Oguzs, the medieval Oguz-Turkmen khanates, the adoption of Islam, the descendant of Seljuk Dukak ogly, the resettlement of Turkmen tribes to Horasan under the leadership of Chagry-beg and Togrul-beg, the wrath of Sultan Mesud, conflicts and the victory of the Seljuks in the Battle of Dandanakan.

This year, the Turkmen State Publishing Service released the third volume of the novel. The book describes the events of the Great Congress of the newly formed Seljuk state.
By decision of the congress, Chagry-beg remains in Merv, controlling Horasan, and Togrul-beg establishes a centre in the city of Rey and begins a campaign to the west. He expands the borders of the state, capturing such important territories as Gurgen, Azerbaijan, Baghdad and a number of lands under the control of Byzantium.

A special place in the book is given to the reign of Sultan Alp Arslan, who continued the work of Togrul-beg. The culmination is the Battle of Manzikert (now the Turkish city and region of Malazgirt), where Alp Arslan crushed the huge army of the Byzantine Emperor Roman IV Diogenes and took him prisoner. This victory not only led to the creation of the great Seljuk Empire, but also brought Alp Arslan the title of «Sultan of Sultans».
The historical novel «Beýik Seljukly» demonstrates that historical narratives can be exciting and educational. Of particular importance to the publication are the original illustrations, which contribute to the visual perception of the historical events described.
