The Turkmenistan national football team will take part in the 2025 CAFA Nations Cup, the matches of which will be held in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from 29th of August to 8th of September.
The second ever tournament of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) will be held with the participation of 8 teams - Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, which are part of the organisation, as well as the national teams of India and Oman.
At the first stage of the tournament, its participants are divided into two groups. Following the draw, the national team of Turkmenistan ended up in Group «A», where its opponents will be the teams of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Oman. All matches of our team will be held at the stadiums «Jar» and «Olimpiyskiy» in Tashkent.
In Group «B», the games in which will be held at the Central Stadium of Gissar, 12 kilometers west of Dushanbe, the national teams of Afghanistan, India, Iran and Tajikistan will compete.
According to the CAFA Nations Cup 2025 regulations, the group stage will be played in a single round. Then the group winners will meet in the final, and the teams that take second place will compete for third place.
The Turkmenistan national team prepared for the upcoming tournament in Tashkent, where head coach Rovshen Meredov invited 24 football players from four Turkmen and two foreign clubs to a training camp.
Goalkeepers: Resul Charyyev, Rustem Ahallyyev (both «Arkadag»), Muhammet Ovezov («Shagadam»).
Defenders: Vepa Jumayev («Vitebsk», Belarus), Bahtyyar Gurgenov («Ahal»), Abdy Bashimov, Ibrayym Mammedov, Berdimyrat Rejepov, Yhlas Toyjanov, Guychmyrat Annagulyyev (all «Arkadag»).
Midfielders: Rahman Myratberdiyev («Altyn Asyr»), Gurban Annayev («Ahal»), Yazgylych Gurbanov, Arzuvguly Sapargulyyev, Mirza Beknazarov, Velmyrat Ballakov, Ahmet Atayev, Yhlas Saparmammedov (all «Arkadag»).
Forwards: Mihail Titov («Uzgen», Kyrgyzstan), Begench Akmammedov, Altymyrat Annadurdyyev, Shamammet Hydyrov, Didar Durdyyev, Shanazar Tirkishov (all from «Arkadag»).
The Turkmen footballers will play their first match on the 30th of August against Kyrgyzstan, on the 2nd of September they will play against Uzbekistan, and the final match in the group will be held on the 5th of September against Oman.
The CAFA Nations Cup tournament among men's teams is held every two years. In the previous tournament, the Turkmenistan team failed to advance from Group «A», having tied 1:1 with Tajikistan and lost with the same score 0:2 to Uzbekistan and Oman.
The current CAFA champion is the Iranian team, which defeated the Uzbekistan team 1:0 in the final match held in Tashkent. The author of the winning goal in the 48th minute was Sardar Azmun.
In the game for third place in the CAFA Nations Cup 2023, the Omani team beat the Kyrgyz footballers 1:0 and won the bronze medals.
