Concert by opera soloists concludes Korean Culture Week in Ashgabat

The final chord of the Korean Culture Week in Ashgabat was a concert by opera artists from the Republic of Korea.

Tenor Gwon Hwapyeong and mezzo-soprano Kwon Miji performed on the stage of the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theatre. Accompanied by the State Symphony Orchestra of Turkmenistan under the baton of Resul Gylyjov, the invited soloists presented Korean lyrical pieces celebrating love, nature, and the beauty of life, as well as masterpieces of world classical music.

At the end of the evening, the performers expressed deep gratitude for the warm welcome. Tenor Gwon Hwapyeong noted that this was already his third visit to hospitable Turkmenistan.

“I am immensely happy to perform once again in beautiful Ashgabat. Every time I step onto the Turkmen stage, I feel a special excitement. For me, performing in Turkmenistan is a valuable cultural exchange,” the artist shared, adding that he hopes to further explore the national traditions and musical heritage of the Turkmen people.

Kwon Miji also shared her impressions. She previously took part in the Korean Culture Days last year. She remarked that, despite performing on stages in various countries around the world, Turkmenistan remains a unique country to her—one she always wants to return to.

Korean Culture Week, organized jointly by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, became a vivid testament to the dynamically developing humanitarian ties between the two countries. The events contributed to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding, opening new horizons for cooperation.

In addition to the concert, residents and guests of the capital had the opportunity to experience Korean culture more closely at the “Arkaç” shopping and entertainment center.

The growing mutual interest in developing dialogue between the countries is reflected not only in the arts but also in education. For six years now, the King Sejong Korean Education Center has been successfully operating at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. The center is open to anyone wishing to study the Korean language, regardless of age or level of knowledge.
