A good sesame harvest gathered in Dashoguz velayat

This year, the oilseed crop was cultivated and harvested from 560 hectares in the velayat. The average yield amounted to ten centners per hectare. Among the main producers of this valuable raw material are farmers from the Kunyaurgench and S. Turkmenbashi etraps.

In the region, where sesame has a rich history of cultivation, farmers strive to select the most suitable land plots for its planting. Although sesame is not very demanding in terms of soil composition, it produces particularly good yields on fertile land. The crop is considered drought-resistant and heat-loving, requiring sunny weather throughout its growing season. The choice of planting material and proper soil preparation play a major role in achieving high yields. Local agricultural producers try to choose varieties known for their high oil content.

Sesame oil is especially valued in the velayat. It not only gives pilaf a distinctive taste but is also very beneficial for health. It is believed that in terms of certain components, it even surpasses olive oil. Local residents are confident that this oil has strong healing properties. It is worth noting that the oilcake formed during oil production is a valuable feed for livestock, and the plant’s seeds are used in confectionery and other food industries, as well as in traditional medicine.
