IGU President A.Steiger: Turkmenistan's gas reserves are crucial for human progress and global growth

Turkmenistan possesses vast natural gas reserves. This is crucial for promoting human progress and global growth. This opinion was expressed by OGT 2025 delegate and speaker, International Gas Union (IGU) President Andrea Steiger, in response to a question from a «GA» correspondent about the prospects of the large «Galkynyş» gas field.

«This is a very significant condition, as it provides energy, is a means for increasing the well-being of the country's population, and is an effective integration factor for the region. Therefore, it is crucial that Turkmenistan's valuable gas resources be widely exported. There are potential projects for further interaction and cooperation. I also believe that diversification of sources is also necessary for Europe. In short, this is a very important asset for the future», - stated Steiger.

The IGU head also shared his opinion on the export of Turkmen gas to the European Union.

«Negotiations between the European Union and Turkmenistan on Turkmen gas supplies are ongoing. I am confident that there are prospects here. «This is driven not only by industry but also by political engagement, which needs to be developed. My experience tells me that energy opens doors rather than closes them», - says Andrea Steiger.

The XXX International Conference and Exhibition «Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025» (OGT 2025) is taking place in Ashgabat from the 22nd to 24th of October. The forum is organised by the state-owned concerns «Türkmengaz» and «Türkmennebit», and the State Corporation «Türkmengeologiýa», with the support of the Turkmen Energy Forum.
