An environmentally friendly approach is Turkmenistan’s priority in natural gas production

The «Türkmengaz» State Concern is implementing large-scale projects aimed at increasing production efficiency and developing the gas chemicals industry, while also paying special attention to reducing methane emissions. This was announced by Myrat Archayev, Deputy Chairman of the «Türkmengaz» State Concern, at the pre-conference session of the International Conference and Exhibition «Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025» (OGT 2025).

Turkmenistan is currently actively implementing methane emission monitoring and control systems, including satellite and ground-based observation. Thus, despite increased production volumes, overall methane emissions have decreased by 10% since 2020, according to M. Archayev.

The Deputy Chairman of the State Concern noted that the national Roadmap for Methane Emissions Reduction for 2025-2026 is being consistently implemented in the gas production sector, associated gas utilisation projects are being developed, and compressor stations are being modernised.

«As part of the Program for the Development of the Oil and Gas Industry of Turkmenistan until 2030, we are concluding international agreements. Specifically, we have signed contracts with Baker Hughes and are planning a contract with Siemens Energy for the repair and modernisation of compressor stations. This will help improve equipment efficiency, reduce pressure losses, and minimise methane leaks», said the Deputy Chairman of the SC «Türkmengaz».

M. Archayev also emphasised that Turkmenistan is working purposefully to transition to clean energy based on natural gas, which remains the most environmentally friendly of all hydrocarbons and plays a key role in achieving a low-carbon future.

The XXX International Conference and Exhibition «Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025» (OGT 2025) is taking place in Ashgabat from the 22nd to 24th of October. The forum is organised by the state concerns «Türkmengaz» and «Türkmennebit», the State Corporation «Türkmengeologiýa» with the support of the Turkmen Energy Forum.
