Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations with Japan on April 22, 1992. Over the years, thanks to the firm political will of both sides, trade and economic cooperation has been growing and consistently strengthening. Friendly ties are also reflected in the cultural and educational sphere. Turkmenistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan agreed to organize Days of Culture of the two countries on a reciprocal basis in 2023-2024. This is stated in the Joint statement of the Presidents of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, following the results of the state visit of the head of Turkmenistan to Kazakhstan.
