The Institute of Medicinal plants of Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan worked out and introduced into production a series of herbal preparations and medicinal mixture on the basis of new technologies and ancient recipes of traditional herbal therapy. Scientists determine pharmaceutical significance of wild and cultivated plants.
It is learnt the chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical indices of whole grain of wheat of various sorts and grown – in the dynamics of growth. For example, scientists of the Institute clarified that fast-ripening and high-yielding variety of soft wheat “Bitarap” grown by Turkmen selectionists contains protein no less than 13-14% and can serve as source for creation of biogenic preparations – vital medical agents at present time that help people to preserve good health. For preservation of all active components of wheat germs, the Institute tested the technology of preparation of oil extract from seven-day germs without thermal treatment.
Studying the properties of grape seeds of a series of sorts, the scientists outlined the prospects of creation on their basis of additives with mineral substances capable to remove various toxins from human organism, provide prophylaxis and treatment of a series of diseases of gastrointestinal tract. The researches also determined the ecological purity of the local grapes. It is planned study of extracts from grape seeds, qualities of antioxidants, being kept in dark sorts. Study of possibilities of creation of sugar-lowering preparation from terraneous part of haricot became a new area of researches.
At present, at the Institute of Medicinal plants, it is created the laboratory of biotechnology and organic preparations, which main task will be obtaining of biomass of rare species of plants as well as cultivation “in test tube” of medicinal plants in spite of season and with optimal concentration of biologically active substances. For equipment of the future laboratory and training the qualified staff alongside with support from the Academy of Sciences, it will be used the grant from the Islamic Development Bank, which was allotted to the Institute as a result of competitive selection.
