The forum "Turkmenistan is a powerful transit and transport center on the Great Silk Road" was held in the conference hall of the China University of Petroleum in Beijing on March 15. The forum was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in China with the support of the China University of Petroleum and the Department of International Cooperation of Petrochina Oil and Gas Company.

The forum brought together the representatives of the transport industry of Beijing, the mass media, the teachers of the China University of Petroleum, foreign and Turkmen students studying at the university.

The information on the effective steps taken by our country to revive the Great Silk Road in the context of the accelerated establishment of the modern transport and transit infrastructure, the system of communications and telecommunications aimed at boosting the national economy and sustainable regional development was presented during the forum. The meeting participants underlined the importance of the constructive initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader that were widely supported by the world community. Thus, the Resolution "Strengthening the links between all modes of transport to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals" was unanimously adopted at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.

The large-scale projects carried out in Turkmenistan under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the fundamental modernization and the integrated development of the transport and communication sector, as well as the formation of the international transport and transit corridors were among the key topics discussed during the forum.

In particular, speaking during the forum, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the PRC Chinar Rustamova emphasized the high logistics potential of our country that stands as an important regional and continental centre. Possessing the significant energy and natural resource potential, the unique transport and communication capabilities, Turkmenistan plays an important geopolitical role. The large-scale projects implemented in the country promote the peace and stability on the Eurasian continent.

In this context, the importance of the construction of the Afghan segment of TAPI project launched on February 23, 2018, the power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication lines on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route, as well as opening of the Serhetabat-Turgundi new railroad was underlined. The attention of the forum participants was also attracted by the information on the new international airport of Turkmenabat, opened on February 26 that will become an important crossroads of transport links between the East and the West, as well as the sport events "The Great Silk Road". The enormous geo-economic and geopolitical significance of these projects for the revival of the Great Silk Road in the modern format was emphasized.

Addressing the forum participants, the Secretary of the University Party Committee noted that the fundamental modernization of Turkmenistan's economy, including transport infrastructure, taken place on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, played the key role in the implementation of the integration processes and expansion of the trade relations between the countries along the Great Silk Road.

The Head of the International Cooperation Department underlined the high level of the Turkmen-Chinese cooperation and the great prospects for its expansion, including in the fuel and energy sector.

Postdoctoral student of the China University of Petroleum Rahman Bayramdurdiyev dwelled upon the priorities of the youth policy pursued by the President of Turkmenistan, including the measures, aimed at creating the necessary conditions for increasing the educational and cultural level of young citizens of the country.

The thematic focus of the meeting was highlighted by the video clip telling about the implementation of the large-scale reformatory programmes that affect all spheres of life of the Turkmen state and society.
