On the 24th to 27th of March, 2026, two technical seminars were held in Turkmenistan aimed at supporting the «green» transition and the introduction of technological innovations in the energy sector. The events were organized within the framework of the project «European Union for the green development of Turkmenistan: Political dialogue and climate action for 2024-2029», implemented by the German society for international cooperation (GIZ).

The main trainers of the seminars were leading experts from Clausthal technical university (Germany), who presented the Turkmen specialists with advanced German developments in the field of energy efficiency, system analysis and engineering innovations.

The first seminar, «The introduction of renewable energy sources into the energy system», was held on the 24th of March at the State energy institute in Mary. German experts provided energy specialists with an overview of advanced technologies for wind and solar generation, «green» hydrogen and energy storage systems (BESS), and also discussed technical aspects of renewable energy integration.

In parallel with the technical training, a delegation of high–ranking representatives of the European Union and the MFA of Germany, key donors of the aforementioned project, visited Mary velayat. Particular attention was paid to strengthening strategic partnerships, as well as familiarisation with the progress of project activities on the ground.

On the 27th of March, the second seminar on «Well integrity: new approaches in oil and gas production, including AI (artificial intelligence) and technologies for enhanced gas field productivity» was held in the conference hall of the «Yyldyz» hotel in Ashgabat. Oil and gas industry specialists were presented with innovative methods for ensuring well integrity, materials science, and corrosion control, as well as practical examples of the application of artificial intelligence for predictive maintenance and optimisation of water-producing wells. Particular attention was also paid to issues of industrial safety (HSE) and minimisation of environmental risks.

«This visit and series of technical workshops underscore our shared commitment to the transition to sustainable energy. By combining EU best practices with the national priorities of Turkmenistan, we are not simply implementing technologies, but creating the foundation for long-term climate resilience. Our cooperation in such critical areas as reducing methane emissions and integrating renewable energy sources is a real contribution to the global environmental agenda», – noted the head of the project «European Union for green development of Turkmenistan: Political dialogue and climate action for 2024-2029», Dr. Karolina Milow.
