More than 650 participants of all ages took part in the «Wings of friendship» mass race, which took place in Ashgabat on Saturday, in a festive and inclusive atmosphere. This vibrant event was organised by the Delegation of the European Union in Turkmenistan jointly with the State committee for physical culture and sports and the hakimlik of Ashgabat, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the «Run Rush» running community, and was timed to coincide with the celebration of Europe Day and World health day.

Building on the success of similar event of the last year to mark the International year of peace and trust, the 2026 race continues this positive tradition in a renewed format, further strengthening cooperation between the European Union and Turkmenistan through sport and community engagement.
Based on the values of the European Union and the spirit of Europe day, promoting unity, inclusiveness and solidarity, the event aimed to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle by bringing together professional athletes, running enthusiasts, young people, children, families and people with disabilities in a citywide celebration of sport. It promoted positive social interaction, mutual respect and a strong sense of unity, reflecting shared values of cooperation and well-being.

The race included three distance categories designed for participants of all ages and fitness levels, and took place in Independence Park of Ashgabat, a picturesque and symbolic green space in the centre of the capital, providing a well-organised and accessible route.
Family teams with children took part in the inclusive 2-kilometre race, amateurs took part in the 5-kilometre race, and more experienced participants took part in the 10-kilometre race.

The event began with an official opening ceremony, followed by a general warm-up and individual race starts. In addition to the races themselves, participants and visitors were able to take part in a variety of recreational and family activities, maintaining a lively and festive atmosphere throughout the morning.
All finishers received commemorative medals, and the winners in each category were awarded special prizes provided by sponsors.
