The name of Amangeldi Hydyrov, a painter and member of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan, is well known not only in our country but also far beyond its borders. The works of the master, who has entered his eighth decade and reached artistic maturity through talent and hard work, have earned the admiration of a wide audience.

Another testament to this is his personal exhibition, which recently opened at the Balkan Velayat Museum of History and Local Lore. The exhibition is dedicated to the artist’s 75th anniversary.

The opening ceremony was attended by numerous admirers of fine art, people of various ages and professions, as well as students. The exhibition features works created by the artist over different periods. The series of paintings, distinguished by their rich content, depth, and refined execution, left a lasting impression on visitors.

As Akbibi Gurbannazarova, senior researcher at the Balkan Velayat Museum of History and Local Lore, Candidate of Historical Sciences, told a correspondent of “GA”:

“Not everyone is capable of bringing to life the inspiration drawn from nature and sharing this spiritual delight with others. Master painter Amangeldi Hydyrov, creating silent works on canvas comparable to multi-volume books, can in an instant revive places you have never visited and take you on a journey through them. In this way, his paintings have a special impact on the human spirit.”

Akbibi Gurbannazarova emphasized that many of Amangeldi-aga’s works reflect the magic of nature’s creations. He reveals the harmony of life in forms and silhouettes born of nature itself. For example, in 1983 he created a unique work in which the image of Magtymguly Fragi seems to merge with the rocks. The face of the poet and thinker, becoming part of nature, was presented by the artist not only to the Turkmen people but to the whole world. This work became a symbol of respect and high appreciation for the historical contribution made to national memory by Aykhan Hajyev, who created the canonical image of the great poet.

These qualities are confirmed by such notable works of Amangeldi Hydyrov as “The Mountain,” “The Old Cave,” “Voices of Cranes,” “Our Mountains Called Balkan,” “The Rock,” “Garajadag,” “Mountain Wind,” “Kurendag,” “Melody of the Mountains” and many others. Executed in the genre of mountain landscape, they evoke unforgettable feelings in the viewer. By exploring the artist’s palette and creative pursuits, audiences develop an even deeper love and respect for their native land.

Visitors also highly appreciated Amangeldi Hydyrov’s graphic works, including “Pykhy Tagan,” “Portrait of Ashyrmammet Davudov,” “Wheel of Fortune. Hommat Bakhshi,” “Yemreli Tuvakov,” “Senaly. Didarberdi Allaberdiyev,” “Famous Coach Kurban Berdiyev,” “Poet Polly,” “Portrait of Kasym Nurbadov,” “Desert Rose” and many others. These works are distinguished by their originality and high artistic merit.

It is worth noting that the artist’s creative portfolio includes around 200 works reflecting various encounters and moments of life. In addition, Amangeldi Hydyrov is the author of several books dedicated to historical destinies: “Öwüşginler” (“Radiance”), “Ýürekde galanlar” (“What Remains in the Heart”), “Obadaşlarymyz” (“Our Fellow Villagers”), “Keşbiň siňmiş daglara” (“Your Image Merged into the Mountains”).

For more than 40 years, Amangeldi Hydyrov has participated in exhibitions at both national and international levels. His solo exhibitions have been held in Ashgabat, Moscow, and other cities. More than 55 of his works are kept in private collections.

Despite being officially retired, the master continues to create actively. A strong supporter of mentorship traditions, over many years of work at the Balkanabat Children’s Art School he has trained numerous students. His son, Dovran Hydyrov, continues his father’s work—today he is also a teacher at the same school and has been a member of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan for more than 16 years, successfully developing his artistic career.
