An exhibition of works by two people's artists of Turkmenistan, Ada Gutlyyev and Babasary Annamyradov, is currently on display at the Ashgabat State academy of arts gallery. Why did two famous artists – a sculptor and a carpet artist – join forces in one exhibition? The answer to this question was received during the grand opening of exhibition: while Ada Gutlyyev was installing the carpet exhibits, Babasary approached him with the question: «What if I complement your carpet exhibition with my sculptures?». Both of them liked the idea, and most importantly, the audience liked it. Among the visitors who came to the opening were students of the academy of arts, artists, art historians, theatre workers, friends and relatives of Ada and Babasara. An interesting fact: when the granddaughter of Babasary was given the floor, she sang the National Anthem of Turkmenistan for everyone present. Medine received a standing ovation from the audience, who were thrilled by the little girl's patriotic performance.
Ada Gutlyyev is an unrivalled carpet artist. Moreover, there is not a single secret for him concerning Ahal-Teke horses. And he generously and beautifully shares his knowledge. Thus, in one of the carpets he conveyed information about the pedigree of elite horses, and two of his other carpets «spoke» in verse, one of which was in verse by the respected Arkadag. The favourite carpet of the author is «Bedev-3D». It contains a philosophical idea − it is impossible to fully understand the world. You change your point of view, the picture on the carpet changes.
Since 2011, Ada Gutlyyev has won first place 12 times in the annual carpet competition held at the State academy of arts of Turkmenistan to mark the national holiday, Horse day! He can rightfully be called a super laureate! Ada Gutlyyev would have continued to win, but it was decided to give other carpet artists the opportunity to also win in this competition, and Ada stopped exhibiting.
Ada Gutlyyev presented three new works at the current exhibition, adding to the collection of great master of exquisite carpets. What are they about? Of course, about Ahal-Teke horses! Without them, there can be no carpets from Ada Gutlyyev!
The most important exhibit displayed by Babasary Annamyradov at the exhibition was a whole herd of Ahal-Teke horses, all gilded. In this sculptural composition, the author has captured the prototype of the motto of the year of our country – «Independent neutral Turkmenistan - the homeland of purposeful winged horses». Golden horses symbolise our epoch – the Golden age of the Turkmens.
The exhibition featured a video showing the works of master, encompassing his entire rich creativity. The range of interests of Babasary Annamyradov is extremely broad. By the way, Babasary Annamyradov − three-time laureate of the State prize «Türkmeniň altyn asyry». On the TV screen one could see legendary historical figures, medieval poets, fragile, graceful youths, and even well-known sculptures from his early work. One of them is a rural teacher, and there are several variations. The best one, in my opinion, is made of wood. Wooden sculptures convey the warmth, kindness, and soft, calm character of the original. Babasary Annamyradov managed to convey the intelligence of an aging teacher who imparted his knowledge and wisdom to several generations of fellow villagers. Perhaps «The Village teacher» is the hallmark of work of Babasary Annamyradov, because despite the years, it continues to excite viewers.
Among the sculptures he exhibited were several dozen enlarged apples. There is an apple encrusted with precious stones. Babasary himself does not remember how many fruits of this plant he sculpted. Babasary keeps the reason for this passion a secret. Perhaps the apple he made is the basis for the origin of humanity, or perhaps it is simply a tasty and healthy fruit.
The exhibition of two folk artists of Turkmenistan is a unique event designed for young artists, who are given the opportunity to learn from the example of experienced masters.
