A personal exhibition of paintings of Nyyazmyrat Dovodov has been opened at the State museum of fine arts in Ashgabat in honour of his 105th birthday. Nyyazmyrat Dovodov, an honoured artist of Turkmenistan, has left a rich legacy for his compatriots. Suffice it to say that the thematic exhibitions of museum rarely do without his works. Therefore, the anniversary exhibition features many paintings that are well known to art enthusiasts.
Personal exhibitions have one special feature. They can help you understand the essence of their creator. For example, we can say that Dovodov is a Citizen of his country with a capital letter. The paintings of Nyyazmyrat Dovodov are a chronicle of the life of Turkmen people, from the plough pulled by oxen, camels, and even donkeys (the painting «It used to be»), to the mechanical plough (the painting «The Beginning»), to the construction of the Garagum canal. And everywhere on the dusty construction sites, a talented artist walked with an easel behind his back, sketching in a notebook. The artist was able to beautifully present building landscapes.
The painting «My homeland» is admired for its fresh colours of a collective farm field, the blue stripe of the Garagum canal, and a distant train. This work is quite famous and is often exhibited in museums.
Nyyazmyrat Dovodov was born in 1921. During the war, he graduated from the Turkmen state art school. The military theme was always present in his work. The portrait gallery of war veterans was expanded throughout his life. No military-themed exhibition is complete without his still life «A Gift to a veteran», which depicts books and a bouquet of carnations.
A separate exhibition includes paintings of Dovodov on medical themes. Among them is the painting «The Country hospital», a very famous work. People in white coats are a special group of people who are ready to help a sick person at any moment. And the brush of the artist is passed on by dedicated professionals.
Dovodov was attracted to creative people, such as jewellers and musicians. And he captured their appearance very accurately in his paintings. In this way, he presented a large and diverse portrait gallery of his compatriots to the audience.
The artist passed away in 1987. If fate had given him the opportunity to live to this day, his paintings would feature the modern architecture of the capital, and his portrait gallery would include people from other professions, such as diplomats and entrepreneurs. And he would have created their image on canvas with the same honesty and talent. But a person does not choose the time.
