A Ceremonial Reception Dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day Was Held in Ashgabat

An official reception marking Georgia’s national holiday — Independence Day — was held at the Embassy of Georgia in Turkmenistan. The event, symbolizing the sovereignty and democratic development of the Georgian people, brought together representatives of government agencies, the diplomatic corps, international organizations, as well as members of the public and the media.

The celebration was opened by Konstantin Sabiashvili, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Turkmenistan. In his welcoming speech, the head of the diplomatic mission highly praised the dynamic development of bilateral relations, emphasizing that active exchanges of high-level visits serve as the key driving force behind the partnership. The diplomat highlighted the achievements of the past year as important milestones.

“2025 was especially eventful. The official visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Ashgabat took place, during which he met with President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The Prime Minister also participated in the Summit of the Heads of State of Central Asia and in the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality. Our countries share a great deal in common. These include centuries-old cultural and family traditions, shared moral values, and a commitment to preserving national identity. The Georgian and Turkmen peoples equally honor their historical roots and look to the future with optimism,” noted K. Sabiashvili.

The ambassador expressed deep gratitude to Turkmenistan for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty. The diplomat wished President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, good health and continued success in their activities, and wished the friendly country peace and prosperity.

In turn, Turkmenistan’s Minister of Trade, Nazar Agakhanov, conveyed warm congratulations on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Hero-Arkadag. The minister emphasized that diplomatic relations established between the two countries more than 30 years ago now serve as a reliable foundation for equal and trusting partnership.

“Today, relations between our states are developing along an upward trajectory. Expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Georgia is one of the important directions of our bilateral relations with European countries. An important role in the development of Turkmen-Georgian economic ties is played by the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. On May 7, 2026, the fifth meeting of this commission was held in Ashgabat, following which a corresponding protocol was signed, outlining the further direction of practical cooperation,” stated N. Agakhanov.

The evening was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Guests of the event had the opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage of the two countries. Traditional folk songs and tastings of Georgian and Turkmen dishes became highlights of the celebration.
