On 27 July 2026, a meeting of the co-chairs of the Turkmen-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran Farzaneh Sadegh Malvajerd was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of the development of Turkmen-Iranian cooperation, both bilaterally and within the framework of reputable international organisations, primarily the United Nations.

The importance of the principles of good-neighbourliness and mutual respect that are peculiar to the relations between the two states was emphasized at the meeting.

The Iranian side congratulated Turkmenistan on the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Resolution “Year of International Law, 2028”, initiated by Turkmenistan, which was also co-sponsored by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The parties discussed trade and economic issues, as well as exchanged views on strengthening the role of the Turkmen-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Upon the results of the meeting, the parties reiterated their mutual commitment to further consistent development of cooperation on all fields of mutual interest.
