Turkmen sportsmen have won seven medals – two golden and five silver, at the 11th Worldwide Grand Wushu Festival recently held in Shanghai. Success is particularly substantial as national team of Turkmenistan consisted of seven sportsmen and all of them make a path to final of combative contests that is called “sanshou” in wushu.

Nearly 2000 sportmen from over 20 world countries as Russia, USA, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, Turkmenistan and others arrived to Shanghai. The participants competed for medals not only in single combats, but also in complex exercises (taolu).

The contests on sanshou were held in two age groups – junior and adult. The junior group turned out “golden” for Turkmen residents. Pupils of chairman of Wushu Federation of Turkmenistan Yazmyrat Annamyradov residents of Ashgabat Rahat Rahimov (weight category up to 48 kilograms) and Chary Taganglyjov (up to 52 kilograms) raised the highest level of podium. The Turkmen flag was raised high twice at the awarding ceremony under vaults of the Shanghai Sport Complex and the melody of the national anthem was sounded twice in honor of the winners.

Silver medals in the junior group of participants were won by Atageldi Durdiyev (up to 56 kg) from Ashgabat and pupil of Shirmyrat Berdiyev – senior coach of the Akhal wushu athletes – Bairamgeldi Annayev (up to 60 kg).

Gochmyrat Jumaniyazov (up to 70 kg), Kemal Sahatov (up to 75 kg) from the Akhal province and sportswoman Jennet Aynazarova from Ashgabat distinguished in adult group. All of them made their path to the final and won silver medals.

Most of sportsmen had enough experience of performance at the contests abroad. This medal is the fourth “gold” in succession for Chary Tagangylyjov at the international tournaments. All these vividly testify about rapid growth of the Turkmen wushu school. As an example, it is possible to give the quantity of medals won by our masters of wushu in the last and in the current years taking into account the Shanghai Grand Festival – over 40 (15 golden, 16 silver and 11 bronze) medals.

It is noteworthy that the most ancient Chinese single combat will be presented at the Asian Indoor Sport Games and martial arts in 2017, which will be held on the base of the Olympic Township, being constructed in Ashgabat. So, it is essential for young Turkmen successors of wushu to start to prepare for these contests already today. Undoubtedly, the completed tournament has provided them a good sport experience.

At present, all Turkmen masters of wushu train for the national contests: on July 28-29, the club championship of Turkmenistan will take place in Ashgabat sport complex “Galkynysh”. According to its results, it will be formed out two teams, which have to appear in August at the Asian Wushu Championship in Ho Chi Minh City and in September – World Championship among juniors in Macao.
