The Turkmenistan women’s national team secured its fifth victory at the ongoing 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.
Following their defeat by Sweden (seeded 29th) by a score of 1.5–2.5, the Turkmen women’s team, seeded 55th, convincingly defeated their opponents from Kyrgyzstan (seeded 78th) by a commanding 4–0 score. All four Kyrgyz players were Woman FIDE Masters. On the first board, Woman FIDE Master Lala Shohradova (2147) confidently defeated Nuray Sovetbekova (2029). On the second board, Woman FIDE Candidate Master Leyla Shohradova (2101) defeated Alexandra Samaganova(1943). On the third board, Woman FIDE Master Jahan Rejepova (2027) overcame Begimai Zairbek kyzy (1973), while on the fourth board Mahri Agamuradova (1939) defeated Aymonchok Zhunusbekova (1930).
Following this victory, the Turkmenistan women’s national team climbed 17 places, moving into 47th place among 190 teams with 12 points. With one round remaining in the Olympiad, the individual results of the Turkmen players are as follows: Mahri Agamuradova has scored 6.5 points in 9 games; Leyla Shohradova has 6 points after 10 games; Jahan Rejepova has 4.5 points after 8 games; Lala Shohradova has 3.5 points after 9 games; while reserve player Ogulsuray Bayrambayeva has a perfect score of 3 points, although she has played only three games.
The Turkmenistan men’s national team (seeded 65th) lost 1–3 in the 10th round to Kazakhstan (seeded 35th), whose lineup includes international grandmasters on three boards. For the Turkmen team, International Grandmaster Saparmurat Atabayev (rating 2503) and FIDE Master Amanmuhammet Hommadov (2389) drew their respective games, agreeing to a draw with grandmasters Denis Makhnev (2568) and Aldiyar Ansat (2495) on the first and third boards, respectively. Meanwhile, Grandmaster Meylis Annaberdiyev (2384) and Shahruh Turaev (2222), playing on the second and fourth boards, respectively, lost to International Master Sauat Nurgaliyev (2493) and Grandmaster Zhandos Agmanov (2490).
Following this defeat, the Turkmen chess players dropped to 45th place among 206 teams with 12 points. With one round remaining, Saparmurat Atabayev and Amanmuhammet Hommadov have 6 points each after 10 games; Meylis Annaberdiyev has 5 points after 9 games; and Shahruh Turaev has 4 points after 8 games. Reserve player Vepaly Halynyazov has a perfect score of 3 points, although he has played only three games.
In the final, 11th round, the Turkmenistan men’s national team will face Montenegro, seeded 40th, while the women’s team will play against the Belarusian women’s team, seeded 32nd.
