A Reliable Feed Supply Is the Key to Successful Wintering

Ensuring an abundance of food in the country depends directly on the performance of the livestock sector within the agro-industrial complex. For this reason, the state is creating all the necessary conditions for the development of this sector. With government support, specialists from the Lebap Velayat Livestock and Poultry Industry Production Association, along with shepherds working on remote pastures, are devoting themselves fully to their work and contributing to the prosperity of the Motherland in the year “Independent Neutral Turkmenistan — the Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses.”

At present, the Velayat Livestock and Poultry Industry Production Association oversees five livestock farms that raise small and large ruminants, as well as camels. The annual growth in livestock numbers reflects the effective organization of work. These farms currently keep more than 109,660 head of livestock. Of this total, approximately 54,780 are breeding females, around 1,300 are cattle, including more than 300 cows, and 2,760 are camels, of which approximately 1,280 are female camels.

Preparations of pastures for the winter season are carried out systematically throughout the year. To date, 309 sheepfolds, 89 livestock enclosures, 520 ordinary wells, and two artesian wells have been repaired and fully prepared for the season at the farms. The rapid pace of work indicates that repairs to the remaining facilities will be completed soon.

Successful wintering and maintaining the livestock’s body condition depend directly on the amount of feed harvested. The region’s livestock farms are working effectively to ensure sufficient supplies. To date, 7,536 tonnes of fodder have been harvested on the pastures. This includes 4,059 tonnes of coarse-stemmed grasses, 1,910 tonnes of meadow grasses, 1,265 tonnes of straw, 247.67 tonnes of alfalfa hay, and 55 tonnes of barley.

It should be noted that forage crops are specifically sown for livestock in the eastern region. At present, all livestock farms are actively harvesting reserve feed supplies for the winter. This important campaign is being carried out particularly effectively at the «Köýtendag» farm in the Koytendag etrap and the «Tallymerjen» farm in the Dovletli etrap. The dedicated work of livestock breeders in the Lebap velayat clearly demonstrates their readiness for the coming winter season.
