Balıkesir–Çanakkale: Turkmen Media Representatives Explore Türkiye’s Cultural and Historical Sites

As we have already reported, representatives of leading state-owned and private media outlets in Turkmenistan took part in a press tour of Türkiye. The trip was organized by Turkish Airlines, the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Turkmenistan, and the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA).

The visit programme was designed to introduce participants to the cultural, historical, and tourist attractions of the regions. During the press tour, participants had the opportunity to explore infrastructure, cultural centres, natural areas, and historical complexes included in the itinerary.

On the first day, the programme began with a visit to the Adatepe Olive Oil Museum in the village of Küçükkuyu. There, the delegation explored an exhibition dedicated to the history of olive oil production, traditional artisanal methods, and the distinctive characteristics of the local industry.

The museum’s halls house archival materials and collections of tools, as well as thematic installations and reconstructions illustrating the development of olive oil production over the centuries. The tour included visits to the interior exhibition spaces and the courtyard, where elements of everyday life and cultural traditions associated with olive oil production have been recreated. This provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the importance of the industry to the local economy and culture.

The day concluded with a visit to the Third Olive Oil Tasting Festival on the coast of Güre in Balıkesir Province. The programme featured themed exhibition stands, demonstrations of production technologies, and cultural events.

On the second day, participants embarked on a jeep safari in Kazdağı National Park. The route followed mountain roads and scenic viewpoints, allowing the group to observe the region’s natural features, including forested areas and springs, while enjoying panoramic views.

The programme provided an opportunity to explore the park’s natural landscapes and the tourist infrastructure that provides access to its ecological trails.

On the third day, the delegation travelled to the ancient city of Assos. Participants visited the archaeological site, examining the surviving structures and excavation areas.

The delegation then proceeded to the Temple of Athena, located on a hilltop. Parts of the columns and foundations have survived, offering an insight into the scale and characteristics of construction in antiquity. The tour included an overview of the surrounding area, panoramic views of the coastline, and the archaeological zone around the temple. Participants learned about the sanctuary’s significance in the region’s cultural and religious life, as well as its role in shaping the historical identity of Assos.

On the fourth day, the programme continued with a visit to Troy National Park and the nearby museum, which houses an exhibition of archaeological finds and reconstructions illustrating the history of the ancient city.

The participants then arrived at the archaeological village of Tevfikiye, where an environment reflecting a traditional settlement has been recreated, showcasing local daily life and craft practices.

On the fifth day, the journalists visited the Çanakkale Martyrs’ Memorial on the coast and examined the architectural features of the commemorative complex. The programme continued with a visit to a reconstructed site in Alçıtepe, featuring trenches and a 1915 Red Crescent field hospital that illustrate the conditions during the military campaign. The visit included an inspection of the reconstructed facilities, thematic exhibits, and sections of the defensive lines.

Overall, the press tour enabled participants to explore key cultural, historical, and natural attractions in the regions covered by the itinerary, while also gathering factual information about the development of Türkiye’s tourism infrastructure and the preservation of its cultural heritage.
