A student of the National Institute of Tourism and Sport of Turkmenistan U. Bazarbaev ranks among the top five athletes in the under 62 kg category in the World Weightlifting Championships in Paris. It should be noted that the Championship was the last qualification event for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

36 weightlifters from 27 countries competed in this category. U. Bazarbaev lifted 135 kg in the snatch event and 168 kg in the clean and jerk event. Our weightlifter lifted 303 kg in the combined event and left 32 athletes behind.

30-year-old International Master of Sports U. Bazarbaev started practicing sport at the children’s and youth sports school in Gurbansoltan Eje Etrap, Dashoguz Velayat. His first coach was M. Rejepov. Then he trained at the Olimp sports school in Ashgabat. For the past nine years U. Bazarbaev has been perfecting his skills under the supervision of Honoured Coaches of Turkmenistan I. Matkarimov and A. Emiryan at the National Weightlifting Centre. U. Bazarbaev took the seventh place among 20 sportsmen in the under 62 kg category in the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, ranked among the top five athletes at the World Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2007, won the world title among students in the American city of Frederick in 2004, won the silver medal of the 1st Islamic Solidarity Games in Medina, Saudi Arabia in 2005 and became the bronze-medal winner of the Asian Championships in Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Kanazawa (Japan) in 2004 and 2008.

The Turkmen sportsmen performed well in the sports arena in Paris and gained the points required for our national team to qualify for the Olympic Games. If the things go well at the finish of the world tournament, the Turkmen team will have the first-ever chance to occupy three benches in the weightlifting tournament of the 2012 Olympic Games.
