Our compatriot Merdan Nursahatov won a bronze medal in the World Powerlifting Championship held in Aguadilla (Puerto Rico) with participation of 38 men’s and 27 women’s teams. Our athlete was honored with high award.
Honored Master of Sports M. Nursahatov appeared in the weight category up to 74 kg, where 16 athletes competed for medals. He fixed apparatus with weight 222.5 kg in his crowning kind of powerlifting - in bench press. At that, 36-year old Turkmen wrestler not only renewed his national record by 12.5 kg but also beat a record of Asia – 220 kg, which was determined on November 9, 2011 in the World Championship in Pilsen (Czech Republic) by Japanese Okutani Mayota.
The current World Championship in Puerto Rico was marked with another five records of Turkmenistan. Silver prize winners of the Asian Championship – 2012, debutants of the World Championship – master of sports from Mary Ahmed Kurbanov (weight category up to 83 kg) fixed new record of the country in squat with weight (260 kg), and students of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan, masters of sports Jeren Tuyliyeva (up to 63 kg) and Mahriban Jumaniyazova (up to 72 kg) renewed the national records in squat with weight (162.5 kg and 160 kg) and scope of triathlon (382.5 kg and 390 kg).
