Turkmen sambo wrestlers’ success at World Championships

The Turkmen athletes won three silver and two bronze medals at the 35th World Sport and Military Sambo Championships, which was held in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius. The international tournament was held at the 10,000-seat Siemens Arena and brought together the record number of participants – 450 athletes from 55 countries.

A coach of the sport school of the State Committee for Tourism and Sport M. Phillipova (under 48 kg) and a student of the National Institute of Sport and Tourism G. Babamuratova (under 52 kg) gained three victories for the national team and ranked the second in the tournament. A coach of the sport school of the Ashgabat Sport Committee, International Master of Sport A. Niyazmengliev (under 82 kg) gained the same result in the military sambo tournament.

The students of the National Institute of Sport and Tourism G. Haiytbaeva (under 64 kg) and K. Allanurov (under 57 kg) won the bronze medals.

Our wrestlers ranked the forth in the women’s military sambo tournament and the eighth in the men’s military sambo tournament and the eleventh in the sport sambo tournament.

The athletes prepared for these important competitions under the supervision of Honoured Coaches Omar Muhamednazarov, Ata Adaev and Dortkulu Tejenov.
