Turkmen footballers will compete with the national teams of Ukraine, Lithuania, and Moldova for the traditional Commonwealth Cup in St. Petersburg on January 18-27. According to the draw the teams were qualified into Group C.
Twelve youth teams (under 21) qualified into three groups will compete for the Cup for the second year. Group A: Belarus, Latvia, Estonia, Tajikistan, Group B: the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan.
Two best teams of each group as well as two best runner-ups will compete for the first eight places. The teams taken the fourth places and the worst runner-up will play for the other four places. The tournament will take place at the artificial lawn in the Petersburg Sports and Concert Centre.
Turkmen footballers will play the first match versus their rivals from Moldova on January 19. Next day our compatriots will compete versus Lithuania and complete the group tournament on January 22 playing versus Ukraine.
PRO Honoured Coach of Turkmenistan Rovshan Muhadov will train our team. It should be noted that Rovshan Muhadov contributed to the success of Turkmen footballers at the International Tournament for the Cup of the President of Turkmenistan. The tournament was held in Ashgabat with participation of the CIS member states within the framework of events on implementation of the Concept of the presidency of Turkmenistan over the Commonwealth of Independent States on 2012.
