A regular meeting of Special working group for development of the project of Convention on legal status of the Caspian Sea at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Caspian states – Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan started its work in the Turkmen capital.
Within the framework of the first day of the meeting, the heads of delegations stated positions and proposals of their states, exchanged views on a wide range of vital issues. As it was noted, the Caspian basin is the strategic region, which development in the terms of peace, stability and security meets the long-term interests of all Caspian partner states connected with traditional, centuries-old ties of friendship and neighborliness. In this connection, it was expressed mutual interest in soonest completion of work at final text of Convention on legal status of the Caspian Sea as well as common striving to continue the search of mutually acceptable decisions on conceptual proposals of this basic document urged to become reliable legal instrument of interrelations of five coastal countries in various fields of vital activity on the Caspian region.
